My paladin is really fun to play. I have been leveling prot, and got reconing. So, I have been aproaching 39 and want to grab some plate pvp gear. My question is: is using a two hander with reconing a decent strategy for burst damage? Or should I just stay with my sword and shield? Or go respec ret?

My second question regards talents and tanking. Righteous fury has 60% increased threat from holy damage. Later I got the talent which says I get 50% more increased threat. Yet when I mouse over the buff it says 60% increased and the tooltip says 90%. Last time i checked 50% + 60% = 110%. If the talent is wrong I would just like to know. However if it isn't, what happened to my other 20%?

Thanks

RF adds 50% of the 60% - ie, 30%. 60% & 30% = 90%.

What is it you wanna do? Tank, stay Prot and use sword/board. Grind? Stay Prot use sword/board. PvP? Go Ret and smash faces (or Holy and heal, bleh).

Note that the talent Improved Righteous Fury increases RF's effectiveness by 50%, not threat in general. So as jig pointed out that would by 50% of RF's 60% increase to threat, or an additional 30%. 60 + 30 = 90%. The buff icon on your character will still say 60%, but the spell will say, and is correct in saying, 90%.

EDIT: couple typos.

Never been a big fan of Reckoning + 2her.

The math was done to show that swing time isnt too much of a factor in the dps from the duration of Reck, however any Prot Pally will tell you that Holy Shield/Redoubt with a shield spike is a big part of their ability to grind multiple mobs at once.

Drop the shield for a 2h and you are losing ALOT of your ability to tank multi mobs. Your ability to tank multiple mobs is directly related to your dps since the more you get hit the more dps you put out as a Prot Pally. Also loss of HS cuts a bit as well.

You shouldn't really have to worry about collecting gear at this point. Since patch 2.3, leveling is much quicker and easier which means that gear will be replaced faster, which in the end means time wasted.

As to using a 2 Hander with Reckoning, I can see that probably work out with a Protection-Retribution hybrid build such as something along the lines of this.

That might not be the greatest build as I'm no Paladin guru, but the main focus is to get Reckoning, Seal of Command, and Two-Handed Weapon Specialization.

As PvP'ing as a Protection Paladin goes, you are tickling the enemy player with your 1-Handed Sword and trusty Shield, and will most likely get obliterated. However, fighting Warriors and Rogues will take a while but it is possible to achieve victory gainst them.
