A good class to team with a DruidFollow

#1 Jan 05 2008 at 12:53 PM Rating: Decent
My friend and I decided to start new characters with which we plan to group up and work together on quests, and he wants to play a NE Feral Druid. My question is, what class would work best with, and be funnest to play with, a Feral Druid? Since his spec allows him to play both a Tank and DPS, would a healing class like a Holy spec Priest be a good match? That's what I was planning to do, but I read that many Druids switch to Resto after 60, which would makes us both healers. I don't know..but thanks for any advice you can give.

Your buddy has given you the gift of choice, as virtually any class can pair well with a feral druid since they can dps, tank and heal (yes even ferals can heal quite well). So you can choose a DPS, tanking, or healing class and be fine.

Whatever you choose your best bet for fast leveling is spec'ing into the trees that provides maximum DPS, unless you plan on leveling mostly through instances where having a true tank and spec'd healer would make LFG a snap.

So if you're gonna level mostly duo'ing I'd recommend you take the more common "max dps for fast leveling" strategy as feral + shadow. You'll still be fine, as you'll kill most stuff before you NEED healing, and feral druids and shadow priests can both still heal when the need arises.

As far as late-to-end game, while some druids switch to Resto at or after 60, it's not at all automatic or necessary, because feral is 100% viable and valued for end-game tanking and dps. If your buddy says it's likely he'll want to be an end-game healer then you might not want to go the priestly road, unless you want to be an end-game shadow priest. If you've really got your eye on end-game then feral druid + holy priest would be great as you'd be walking around as a tank and healer duo looking for the DPS types which grow on trees.

That's my $.02 anyway.

Great advice, thanks! I'll check up with him to see if he plans on healing end game as resto or if he wants to play feral all the way. JeeBar FTW lol

I agree with JeeBar that you can play pretty much anything with a feral druid. First and foremost would be to play the class and spec you're most interested in - the character you level fastest will always be the one you like to play.

If it were me, I think the most fun would be another feral druid or a rogue. Duo stealth FTW. Especially if it's a PVP server. A mage would also be fun, especially fire. With those combos you'd be tearing down mobs so fast healing would rarely be needed (and your feral friend can of course heal as needed).

If you prefer more of a tank/healer combo, again if it were me, I'd maybe go resto shaman and feral druid for that. Fights would take longer than having a pure DPS class along but your survivability would be pretty much unlimited. Round up 40 murlocs and go. :)

My wife and I are currently playing a druid (Lv 68 - Me) / rogue (Lv 68 - her) and it is a blast. The duo stealth makes for a great time in everything from pvp, to questing, to instancing. Although feral druid has a pretty tough time achieving high ratings in arena, it can be done and I've seen feral druids with up to 2200 ratings, but they are few and far between and you have to be pretty skilled as druid is a skill dependent class. Anyways, I would recommend a rogue or even another druid can be tons of fun (and 2 druids are extremely annoying to kill).

However on your other point. If you would be willing to go resto at lvl 70, warlock is your best bet. Argueable the most unbeatable team out there pvp wise is a resto druid/warlock combo. Other nice options with a resto druid are warrior and even rogue. I've seen a few videos of a resto druid/combat rogue 2 manning high lvl instances such as Shattered Halls and Black Morass...and I mean trash, bosses and everything. So there a few things for u to chew on. GL

Currently my husband and me are leveling a druid (me) Shammy (him) combo.

At 63 I am currently feral and he is enhancement. At 70 he is gonna be going resto and I will be staying as feral (I miss my pre-tbc feral raider!!)

We have found he can heal the lower level outland's instances as enhancement with out much of a problem so it works out well. And for dps for leveling and question... I am lucky I can get 3-4 combo points on something before it dies if I am in kitty form!! Also we have managed even up to this level to be able to easily kill elites 3-6 level's above us as our duo w/o a problem at all.

I would go with the checking what the "end-goals" are thing. If it's raiding/5 man's, PvP, just hand out, can really sway which way you go.

If he plans on staying feral, and you want to heal, I would say level all the healing class's a bit to see how you like them for leveling, or just read up on their healing ability I guess is a good way to put it on what you want to do in the end.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question, he plans on playing a Feral Druid all the way I believe, and the Druid-Rogue stealthing team sounded exciting to me, so that's what I decided to do =P I've played a Mage untill level 54 and I think I would get bored starting another casting class right after it, so decided to try something different I guess lol. I still plan sometime to try out a Priest though.

Another class to consider would be a hunter. No competition between you for gear past level 40. Hunter DPS is very good. Between the two of you monsters would drop very fast. In Outland, if i would have had a few better heals on my pet i would have been unstopable in PVE. Plus your pet can tank just fine while your friend can tear into it from behind.

But like everyone said, with a druid, any pairing can be fun. Do what you like.

I can't emote beating a dead horse, so I'm going to do it with words.

If fun world PvP and quick leveling are your goals, your choice of feral and rogue is a pretty darned good one. I'm enjoying leveling my feral with my buddy's aff lock but my burst paired with his DoTs just isn't the best grinding combo. We've worked out a decent tactic where Voidy goes and rounds up a camp of mobs and I peel them off him one-by-one with shred, but I gotta think an Ambush/Shred opener would be a lot of fun to duo grind with.

Not sure how viable rogue/feral would be in endgame PvP (i.e. 2v2 arena) but I'm sure it would work well enough to be fun. I'm really looking forward to going pvpresto at 70 and talking my buddy into SL/SL, though of course it won't be the FOTM anymore by then.
