My first Kara runFollow

My first Kara run.

Well I did my first kara run last night with my guild. Which was only there 2nd run. We did manage to take down the first boss, I tanked the horse so I was the off tank in that fight. I got no upgrades which kinda sucked but i was excited to do my first run, we did wipe twice.

My group had

2 pallies - healer and tank
2 warrior - tank and dps
2 warlock -
1 druid
2 mages - fire
1 priest- healer

On the first boss, the priest went OOM, So we all know what happens then, other healer couldn't keep up with both tanks. And on way back in we were getting respawns.

Fights seem to last pretty long, and 2 of the dps's were below me on the damage charts. I know im still below the 102.4 avoidance (i'm at 90.4%) so I was getting hit with some big shots, only twice i remember seeing anything over 2.5k. But our group seemed to be lacking in DPS?

Are warlocks really good at dps? i have none and never read the forums about them. I would have thought a hunter would have really helped us, or another healer.

And one more question, as a Pally i have turn undead. Could this be used or would it cause more harm then good? fleeing and drawing more adds?

Are warlocks good dps? Well actually in most raids I've been in, not only are they good dps, but they are TOP dps. There are a couple fights where a rogue might pass them, but nearly every time warlocks are on top of the dps charts. If the warlock isn't near there, then either he sucks at warlock, or his spec isn't PvE spec.

Hunters are good, especially on prince (the more ranged dps you have for that, the better), but warlocks are far, far better dps. Hunters can provide better initial aggro (misdirect) and can CC things.

Your setup is ok, if you're having first time progression in kara, doing Moroes without a second priest of some sort (shadow or holy, doesn't matter) is going to be really rough. What spec is the druid? There are certain situations where a third healer is extremely useful, which is why when I set up a kara I usually bring 2 1/2 healers (2 dedicated healers, and an off-healer, ele shaman, shadow priest, etc.)

As far as turn undead, it actually can be REALLY useful when you're doing moroes without a second priest, though you have an extra off-tank (dps warrior) so you might be able to cope. However, if you're the tank you're really not going to get many chances to use turn undead since you're going to be busy tanking things, but your holy paladin might be able to use it as a form of semi-cc. The cool down on it is quite tricky though, you basically have to turn undead, move far away from it, then stun it with HoJ, then wait for the CD to come up and fear it again. After the second fear is up though, unless a tank picks it up, someone is going to die.

If your dps or healing is low check out their gears and spec. If they are about as good as they can get without getting kara drops, then you might have to make them use lots of consumables. Back when my old guild was progressing in kara we used to use oils, raid food, and even flask for kara. Yes it can get expensive, but if you expect to be able to raid, then you should be expected to have lots of consumables. Blizzard actually said that they design encounters around players using consumables, so unless you're over-geared, no consumables will mean you will lose fights more than win.

The fact that it took you a long time to down Attumen reflects entirely on your dps. It is a relatively simple tank and spank encounter, very easy to heal with only 2 tanks tanking damage with sporadic raid heals.

DPS in raiding is one third of the Holy Trinity. Tank/Heal/DPS. If you are weak on one, no matter how amazing the other two the tripod collapses and you will not progress.

Off specs, poor spell rotation, etc will really hurt you as you progress. Gear is factor, but really the further you progress skill becomes more and more a factor. That is one thing I can't stress enough.

Oh and warlocks with proper skill and stats are solid raiders, in fact if you ever hope to do Illhoof you will want one. Not too bad to have for Aran fight as well. The only fight they don't do all to well in is Curator, that is mainly because sparks die fast so dots arent that useful and even using SB it is hard to stay on top.

False. You DoT Curator and Searing Pain/Shadow Bolt/Drain Life the bolts. Putting up 25k damage curses of Doom is no joke either.

True. It is just one of the few fights that can see a dip in dps for a lock. Especially if they are new to it like the above guy will be. Probably no DBM/Bigwigs so timing Curse of Doom will be tricky and the guy will probably be a clicker /ew

I've blown away other dps on my warlock on curator. Its really simple, when the timer says 50 seconds til evocate put up a curse of doom (amped if you're affliction) and it ticks during the evocation and does insane damage. Honestly when I'm doing kara (and my warlock is in all blues, no epics) the only limit to my dps is the TPS of the tank.
