Question bout wording.Follow

#1 Jan 04 2008 at 4:55 PM Rating: Decent
Got a quick question. I'm an elemental/resto build and I understand that under the elemental tree, the lightning master gives a 6% chance to critical strike increase. I understand that it makes it more likely to get a crit. But under Resto, the 4th tier Tidal mastery or master of tides, it gives a 5% increase to critical effect. Whats that? does that mean i have an 11% increase to my lightning spells?

It appears so.

5% increase to critical effect

It does not increace how often you get a critical, just how hard it will hit, for example

1000 crit , without the talent
with 5% increace that would make
1050 crit

Lightning master would sjut amke you crit 6% more often
(i am not looking at the talent tree and i dont play a shaman but thats the basic difference between the two)

it's 5% increase to "critical effect chance"

whatever that means

edit: I can't imagine that any recommended talent build would recommend this is it didn't mean crit chance.

it uses the word "effect" because it affects healing spells as well as damaging ones, a healing spell does not get a critical Strike, it gets a critical Effect, that is why it is worded the way it is

This.

It's a total of +11% crit chance to LB.

And kudos for using the proper "affect" and "effect"

Lightning Mastery's 6% plus Tidal Mastery's 5% adds up to an 11% chance to get a critical hit with your Lightning spells. It simply uses "effect" on Tidal Mastery because a "critical strike" on the healing spells it also affects seems like an inappropriate word.

"I just struck you for 5K healing."

For Lightning Mastery, it only affects the offensive Lightning spells, and therefore can use the normal term, "Critical strike".
