Seal of Vengeance vs. Seal of CommandFollow

I just dinged 64 (Holy spec, btw) and was able to train Seal of Vengeance. Up until this point, since level 20, during solo fights I have been using Seal of Command. It would appear that SoV does more damage that SoC, but I'm not quite sure. I've tried to look up info on SoV, but I haven't really seen what I'm looking for, which I guess is more of a direct comparison.

I've just started trying to experiment with SoV to try to compare it to SoC. In the short run, it appears that the DoT effect does more damage than the Proc from SoC. And, the judgment of SoV definitely seems to hit a lot harder than the SoC judgement (even if the mob is stunned).

So, I guess my question to the experienced pallys is: Does SoV basically replace SoC?

My plan has been to wait until 70 to respec Holy/Prot, as opposed to the current Holy/Ret that I have. If SoV basically replaces the utility of SoC, I might be better off just respeccing now, since really the only reason I have Ret talents is to get SoC.

Thanks for any input.

Odd, usually people compare Seal of Blood to Seal of Command, but I'll have a go at it.

It really depends on your gear. SoC is very gear dependent, so if you don't have the AP/STR and the right weapon speed to back it up, then it eventually falls behind even SoR for damage. SoV is nowhere near as gear dependent, it will do pretty much the same damage no matter what, modified slightly by spell damage. So the real mitigating factor here is whether or not you have the gear to back up SoC. If you do then use that, if you don't then use SoV.

Jacks's right, as usual ;) SoV will be much better for you as a Holy spec then SoC, unless you really pimp out a "Ret-like set" that you use with SoC. Particularly if you're sword/boarding it then SoV will will be far better for you to use.

I had SoC for a couple weeks before the last patch (while still Prot spec), and even using the amount of Ret gear I had amassed, SoC was not out DPSing SoV or SoR for me.

Socomm has 7 procs per minute, gets 20% of spell damage.

SoV gets 20 PPM and 17% of spell damage. So if you are using over a 3.0 second swing it will proc every strike.

SoV will definitely be more reliable, SoComm you will have to build up a ret set and even then lacking most of the later ret abilities you wont be seeing its full potential. Short quick sporadic fights Socomm might pay off, grinding will probably see SoV win though.

Thanks for the replies.

I am using Blade of Misfortune for dps and probably will be for quite a while. Unless something really good comes along, it seems to be one of the best weapons I could hope to find for most of the 60s levels. I spent the gold on it at 60 and have been pretty happy with it.

So far, using SoV seems to be more consistent/reliable, as Bodhi suggested. It seems to be quicker for kills and more mana efficient as well. But, I tend to judge a lot and drink more, as opposed to trying to conserve mana. Using SoC is probably more mana intensive for my playstyle. But regardless, SoV does seem to be more effective for me.

true.. and you would need a complete ret set kept up to date to still do second rate dps due to not having compatible spec.

on the other hand you could use your holy gear set and SoV or improved SoR and get the same amount of dps or even get a spell damage set and since your spec is based on caster abilities you'll do more dps than using SoC w/o a proper ret spec. SoR and SoV will benefit more from spell damage than SoC. this is how i play my holy pally for solo play or even the occassional instance where i'm along as DPS and backup healer when we're helping another healer gear up or learn healing after respecc'ing. i've put out reasonable dps this way. not gonna get me a dps slot in raids but gets us through 5mans and quests.
