I was wondering what would be a good ranged weapon upgrade for me from my current Valanos' Longbow. I am a MM hunter right now. Thanks ahead of time.

Probably the next logical step up would be Steelhawk Crossbow which drops off Attumen, the first boss in Kara.

Wolfslayer's Sniper Rifle from Big Bad Wolf in Kara is also nice.

Eventually, you'll probably want Sunfury Bow of the Phoenix from Prince, one of the last bosses in Kara.

There are multiple options out there, but I'd suggest the Steelhawk Crossbow for now. If you're not ready for Kara, then Valanos' will work well for the time being. There are a few heroic drops that would be upgrades, but in general, Kara is probably the next logical step if you're not in there already.

If you can't run Kara for some reason (or just aren't getting drops), you also might try running heroic Steamvault as well. The Wrathtide Longbow is a definite upgrade over Valonos.

Just be sure to go into HSV with a very good group.

If you like PvP, the Arena weapons are pretty good as well.

The Bow/Gun from the Hellfire rep (Honor Hold/Thrallmar exalted) would also be an awesome upgrade.

Since I haven't been awfully lucky with weapon drops in Kara so far, I'm working on getting the Season 1 Crossbow. It's 27,000 honor and 40 AV marks- very attainable in a matter of a week or so... Less, if you can take advantage of PvP weekends.

I have the valanos' bow, and it's the only piece of gear of mine I'm planning on keeping as I get my pre-raid gear. I need the int.

Well, I won't care if I get steelhawk or wolf slayer. The S1 bow is better than both of those. I just know that Sunfury will drop... And I'll get it, because i'm the only hunter in my Kara group, and I need a PvP bow and a Raiding bow :)

Hope for the Wolfslayer, it looks badass while the Steelhawk looks like someone through up old blue cheese all over it.

Any 2.4-2.6 speed lvl 70ish blue ranged weapon will make a big difference.
It might even be better then the steelhawk.

And Wolfslayer is the best ranged weapon in karazah, without doubts.
Even though its ugly =(

I don't get why.

WolfSlayer:
149 - 278 Damage
Speed 2.70
(79.1 damage per second)
+15 Agility
Equip: Increases attack power by 32.

Sunfury:
169 - 314 Damage
Speed 2.90
(83.3 damage per second)
+19 Agility
Requires Level 70
Equip: Increases attack power by 34.

Sunfury has 4.2 more DPS, 4 more agility and 2 more AP. I didn't think that the speed would make that huge of a difference. The only other thing that I see is the damage range. WolfSlayer has a difference of 129 damage between top and bottom end damage, while Sunfury has 145 damage. The wolf slayer has slightly more consistent damage. But the sunfury still has the higher top and bottom end damage.

The speed does make a difference.

Because Wolfslayer is faster and with BM talents, the actual ranged attack speed is closer to 1.5 seconds. 1.5 seconds just happens to be the casting time for Steady Shot and the global cooldown time. This means that there is less of a delay between casting Steady Shot/Auto Shot, which means in a time period of say 3 minutes, you'd actually get off more attacks.

More attacks = more damage, and more attacks in the same time frame = more DPS.

There's a spreadsheet at TKAsomething that will allow you to put all your gear in and from that, will calculate your average DPS. And, if you just adjust your weapons around, Wolfslayer *will* do more.

However, I hate guns (I don't like the look of them) and even though Wolfslayer doesn't look too bad, I'll stick with bows.

^^

Its all because of speed.
It comes down to the optimal speeds being:
BM: 1:1 shotrotation 1.8-1.9 after haste (2.5-2.6 before)
1:1.5 shotrotation 2.15-2.25 after haste (3.0-3.1 before)
MM/SV: 1:1 rotation 1.9-2.0 after haste (2.2-2.3 before)
1:1.5 shotrotation 2.25-2.35 after haste (2.6-2.7 before)

1:1 rotations are the most mana effecient dps so a BM wants a weapn with a speed of 2.5 or 2.6, the wolfslayer is only 0.1 away from that, sunfury is 0.3 away from that wich on long term means that sunfury will get a lot less steadyshots off.
Thus doing less dps.
It also explains why Wolfslayer is the 3rd weapon ingame, topped only by barrel-blade longrifle from doomwalker and the 2.9 speed bow from BT (wich is simply so much more powerful that it tops the speed difference...)
