Hi sorry if this has been answered or is sitting in front of my eyes. I've been searching these forums for days now and haven't found the answer to my question so I decided to go ahead and post it up here.

I know for lvling ret is supposed to be the way to go, but after the first few talents I don't feel I'm getting much of a boost in power in any of the trees. So my question is, has anyone had any luck with a build that including maxing out the first couple of talents in each tree to get the best of all threee worlds before switching over to get the more defining talents at higher lvls? Is there a prescribed way to go aobut this and what to take at what lvls? My in initial thought would be to grab
Divine Int 5/5
Spiritual Focus 5/5
Redoubt 5/5 Toughness 5/5
Benidiction 5/5
Imp Judge 2/2

I also don't know what order would be best to take these talents if indeed this was a good idea.
This setup would allow me to get close to the more defining Holy Shock, Holy Shield, or Repentance, whichever tree I enjoyed most during my lvling. I'm only 21 right now so I would be using this build until around 40 or so. Thanks for the help in advance.

You should be going down ret until you get Seal of Command then you can move down holy or stay in ret. But your gear should be primarily str and AP and your weapon should be at a 3.6second speed or higher, and it should be the best weapon you can get at the time. Doing all that you will destroy mobs and enemy players and you should do fine. Way better then trying a hybrid spec... they just don't work well.

Hi Shoehands, welcome to the forums. A good rule of thumb for newb pallies is "listen to CapJack" without question, just salute and carry on smartly.

In case you were wondering though about why hybrid specs are so inadvisable, just look at your own question again. "The first few talents don't give you much of a boost in power" AND "maxing out the first couple of talents in each tree to get the best of all three worlds" appear to be completely contradictory.

The first tiers of each tree aren't very useful, so why compound the problem by getting each tree's least power-boosting talents? The faster and deeper you plunge into a tree, the sooner you'll enjoy the "defining" talents that make Holy, Prot, or Ret so badass. Then when you've got those talents, reinforce you build by going down one of the other trees.

You're in for a lot of fun!

Thanks to both of you for the advice. I've seen multiple of the Capn's posts and know to trust his judgement, he seems to know what he's doing right? lol I guess I'll give running down the ret try a good solid try, all my points are there now anyway.

Hoyadin, sorry I should have clarified. What I meant by "The first few talents don't give you much of a boost in power" AND "maxing out the first couple of talents in each tree to get the best of all three worlds" was simply that spritual focus is very nice for staying alive, redoubt is great for tanking early instances and imp judge is nice for dealing dmg a little faster but after that I wasn't too impressed by the next set of talents. But again the reason I posted up here was to see what you scholors had to say about it, knowing you know plenty more about this class I just started than I will know about for a while. I guess my next question is how should I go down this tree? so far I've gone down like this
Benediction 5/5
Imp Judge 2/2
Imp SotC 3/3
SoC 1/1
Conviction 1/5

After that I figure I'll either finish or at least put 3 more into conviction then go to Imp Ret Aura, but what after that? Should I go with Ret Aura or is Sanc Aura better for dmg output? I think once down to the 6th talent tier I know where to go but don't know how to get there. Again thanks for all the help so far.

Sanc aura is better than Imp. Ret Aura. It's a talent trap... don't fall into it!

Look at a couple of my Ret builds in the FAQ and see which talents I avoided and which ones I grabbed and move down that list. If you have a question about certain talents go ahead and ask.
