Some questions concerning talents...Follow

#1 Jan 04 2008 at 4:10 AM Rating: Decent
Hello, I have recently been putting points into the frost tree. I am a level 58 mage, and have spent all my points in frost. Since I just dinged 58 I'm going to level in the out lands, and I am sure I cant AOE grind there like I used to at level 52+. According to the patch notes, leveling from 20-60 is going to be easier, and quests are going to give more exp than usual. Because of this I am going to quest other than grinding, but I want to know if I should reset my talents and put them in fire for burst damage? I was thinking of getting Arcane Power and Pyroblast combo.

With this build I have seen many people do massive damage in both pve and pvp.

I wanted to put the points in Arcane mind for a better mana pool and Arcane power for damage output.

That build was just for now, but when I hit 70, I am thinking of getting the Combustion + Arcane power combo and with molten fury.

Help would be appreciated

(And I am extremely sorry if you think I post too much, just need opinions ^^)

Well, at 58, I think this build would be better if you wanted to go arcane/fire. I removed some talents in some useless areas. Essentially, I'd go for the standard 40/21/0 build until you get some good spell damage (+700 without Mind Mastery). Check the sticky out for sample builds. They have been optimized for their purposes. I really enjoyed frost for leveling with frostbite, because you get the water elemental and a ton of utility out of the frost tree. However, I do advise you to try many different builds so you can get a good feel for what mages can do, in all the different specs.

I just read the sticky and I'm deciding to stay frost till 70, then try out a fire/arcane spec for pvp only, too see how it works. I really prefer survivability and tactics than burst damage. Because in the sticky it says that if you're fire you will have to change your spec for both pve and pvp if you want to stay one type.

Thanks anyway

You can PvP with any spec. IMO, the viability is like this:

Deep Fire -> Arcane Fire -> Arcane Frost -> Deep Frost for PvP

It also depends which BG you're doing (I'm not talking arena, because if you go into it with a PvE spec, you'll be destroyed quickly). If you're doing something like AV, then PvE specs are fine, but for WSG/AB, they are less useful.
