What to do?Follow

Hey fellow Mages - I'm hoping you lot can steer me in the right direction. Well, i recently gave up on my hunter and got my mage to lvl 70 2 weeks ago and not too sure what to do. Here's my armory Tapole Ok i know my first problem is that he's a belf and i should have been Undead, but anyway. My guild are starting on Kara and i'm very nearly attuned. I think my gear is good enough. I'm planning to fill the green spots, ie bracers and belt with either pvp gear or heroic drops. I'm not too worried about that. What i am worried about is how i will hold up in Kara as frost spec. I know my crit is a bit low, with Arcane Int it's 10.47%.

The other concern i have is my hit rating and mana regen. Very often in instances i run out of mana way before anyone else and i feel like i'm holding everyone back. It doesn't seem too bad on boss fights cause i'm just frostbolting and using pet. But i know the boss fights in Kara are a hell of a lot longer. I need to work on my rep also to get the glyph for more spell dmg and get rings enchanted etc. But at what point should i consider switching to fire? I really don't feel like doing it after spending a fortune on my frost gear.

Also i'll have to find a new set of boots and shoulders with the spellfire set. And i'll have to change my non frostweave gems to +spell crit i would imagine. Without the riding crop i have 860 frost dmg, which i believe is pretty decent. I haven't tried any heroics yet, but will soon. But am i too far in frost to switch to fire? Preferrably i would like to switch between the two and just use fire for raiding and frost for pvp/pve. Which brings me to my other problem. I'm wanting to do 2v2 arena. I know on my armory it shows i have but that was temporary.

I noticed a rogue looking for a dps class for 2v2 so i volunteered. He just happened to be in the best pvp guild on the server and be in season 2 arena gear. Anyway, he wanted me to duel him to decide. So we diced, and i got him down to 500 hp from 10500 or so before dying. And he decided we would make a good team. Somehow this made me an expert or something. And we seemed to do well in our first few games against melee classes and such. But when we got to other casting classes we were in serious trouble. There was another Rogue/Mage combo who killed us about 4 times.

So anyway, the guy was going nuts on me and pointing out every mistake. Even though i tried explaining to him that i'm an Arena noob and he can find someone else, he didn't get it. So eventually we went our own ways and I learned never to deal with the elitist guilds again cause they're all arrogant twats. But i still want to do 2v2 but not sure what i should do. I have very little resilience and HP. Should i grind bg's for season 1 gear? Or should i soldier on with someone else and just get the season 2 or 3 stuff slowly? I seem to lose focus in arena with nerves, and the same happened when i was a battleground noob too, so i'm sure it's down to experience.

Also, which class would be well paired with a frost mage? I've been thinking dps class as a healer would be useless after i run out of mana after 60 secs anyway. Anyway, my main concern is PvE and i would be glad if someone could help me out a little. If i'm going to stay frost for raiding, what do i need to change and how far can i go whilst raiding with frost. Also, are there any good trinkets i could get hold of without hours of praying for drops? I know the Shatari'Skyguard have one but it's for spell crit. And i'm not sure if it would be worth dumping spell dmg for 1% or so extra crit.

Sorry for the noobness questions, but i still consider myself a Mage noob after playing hunter for over a year.

Thanks in advance =)

You will be fine staying frost through kara and gruuls, after the T4 instances most guilds (non-casual) generally have people spec for the highest damage (read: 10/48/3 for us)

A few things of note from looking at your armory:

You seem to have used a veiled noble topaz + runed living ruby for gemming, I would have done either great dawnstone (+8 spellhit) or more veiled noble topaz because of the spellhit, yours is extremely low.

Also, I would recommend that you change to 40/0/21 until you get more spelldmg under your belt (around 850-900 unbuffed) to switch to a full frost build.

You have some decent gear for being a fresh level 70, although it is still PvP minded, work on your sha'tar rep to get the glyph of power, I believe that adds another +12 spell hit. That should be your main concern, especially using binary spells (frostbolts) as a miss is a full resist and a full 2.5 seconds without damage.

I am sort of in your boat in terms of PvP stuff. I still have not arenad (after being 70 for 6 months), so I am too far behind in my battlegroup to just go in with PvE gear, so I am going to run BGs to get honor for S1 gear to amke up for it, slowly but surely.

Thanks for the reply.

One thing i'm confused about though:
"Also, I would recommend that you change to 40/0/21 until you get more spelldmg under your belt (around 850-900 unbuffed) to switch to a full frost build."

I have 860 unbuffed Spell Dmg, that's frost damage of course but my base dmg is 681. Do you mean switch to that spec until i have 850 - 900 base dmg? I'll look into switching some gems for +hit and see if i can get the glyph for more +hit.
