PvP gear in PvEFollow

The conventional wisdom is that PvE gear is best suited for PvE and PvP for PvP mainly because PvP gear emphasizes stamina over all else and gimps the other stats when compared to a comparable PvE piece.

But what about when stamina is a primary stat a class needs for PvE? Will my tanking Druid be short changed if I focus on PvP for his gear? That would free up my questing and other PvE rewards for my healing set.

Thanks

PVP gear is just fine for druid tanking. You can also mix and match the heavy clefthoof set and instance drops / other crafted pieces of gear with pvp gear which is what I'm gonna do, as well as a quest reward or two.

Feral druid is odd because it's the only tanking class where it's frequently ideal to mix some PvP gear in for tanking gear. The reason is because clefthoof is the only druid tanking gear that actually has any defense on it. While defense is preferable to resiliance to hitting the uncritable cap, it's not always possible to do it with current itemization without resorting to the heavy clefthoof set.

Don't get me wrong, heavy clefthoof is an excellent start, but eventually you will want to upgrade. PvP gear is a great substitute when you don't have enough defence because resiliance is so cheap and PvP gear is built towards survivability. Look at getting the vindicator's dragonhide peices first; belt, bracers, and boots. They are easy to get and for any fresh 70 druid will be excellent for both tanking and dps.

After that though, I'd recommend you look at traditional PvE peices for a tanking set. You can use S1 dragonhide for tanking, but it offers less mitigation then blue peices for the same slot. Remember that as a druid tank your primary stat is not stamina, it's armor.

Dps on the other hand can benifit alot more from PvP gear. PvP rings, necks, backs and weapons are all great for PvE dps being on par or better then anything you'll get out of Kara. If you want to get into arenas the S3 gear is also great for dps.

The new PvP gear is also good for DPS. Check out the Vindicator's Dragonhide Boots, Belt & Bracers. A lot of the S3 arena gear is also great for tanking & DPS. Feral Druids in particular are very lucky in this regard. Our PvP "distractions" are actually quite a good benefit to us in our PvE :)

Let's not forget that the best DPS-wep in the game for a feral druid is the s3 feral wep - says something about how confused blizzard about what they wanna do with ferals.

S1 shoulders, head, and gloves are better than anything else you're going to find pre T4 for tanking. The Vindicator's Dragonhide belt is about equal to the Tree-mender's Belt from Heroic Ramparts, the bracers are about equal to Bands of the Swift Paw (35 BoJ), and the Vindicator's Dragonhide Boots are about equal to the Footwarps of Wild Encroachment (60 BoJ). Which ones you get depends on how you want to spend your time gearing up your character.

For cat DPS, the S3 stuff should be better than most PvE gear, it has the same iLevel as loot from BT/Hyjal, and they replaced the +healing from earlier seasons with hit/crit rating.

Edit: And as for the S3 weapon being the best feral weapon in the game, look at some of the other S3 weapons. The S3 1H swords are better than anything but the Warglaives, the S3 1H axes/maces/fist weapons are also ranked 1st for rogues/fury warriors. The 2H weapons are split 50/50 for PvP vs PvE for the #1/#2 spot.

I just find it amusing that none of the 25 man feral weapons even make it into the top 3.

Pillar of Ferocity (Hyjal) and Staff of Primal Fury (ZA) are #3 and 4. Depending on the list you're looking at, Terrestian's Stranglestaff (Kara) and Gladiator's Maul (S1) are #5 and 6 in different orders. The problem with the PvE feral weapons is that 25 man content has 1 feral DPS staff and 1 feral tanking staff. 10-man content has 2 DPS weapons.

I don't think anyone mentioned it, but look into Heroic Instances. There are extremely good badge rewards since they buffed the gear last patch. I plan to get many of those pieces for my feral druids tanking set.

Granted, You'll have to have decent gear to tank a heroic in the first place, so start out by grabbing some S1 and vindicator gear then slowly start picking up some of the more PvE tanking pieces from the heroic badge rewards.
