I've never really bothered with the money aspect of Portals. After I read this thread i thought I should make more of an effort in supplying portals and subsequently announced to the world that I was giving out portals to anywhere and only accepting tips.

You'll eb surprised how much people are willing to pay. Last night alone I portalled a fair few people, with tips ranging from zero to 5g. someone even tipped me 4g to get a portal to Darnassus!

I had someone whisper my mage the other night and ask "Will you port me to Shatt, is 10g enough?". Took me a minute to reply (mostly because I was considering saying no, it's not enough Smiley: grin).

It can be a pretty nice way to pick up some pocket change but usually I'll only respond to whispers. Most of the reason I don't respond to other requests is, see I'm not waiting for you to finish smelting your 74 stacks of copper in the Dwarven Dist and then make your way over to the SW Bank. The nice thing about the guy from the other night was he paid me 10g, and was standing right behind me when he asked. Perfect.

My mage isn't high enough yet to make ports to Shatt, but I understand the usefulness of havivng it as our hearth.

The best is when you get your teleport:Shat. Then you can set your hearth to Gadget for easy KoT run access.

Another option is Light's Hope Chapel for quicker trips to ZA. All depends on where you think you'll find yourself going more often.

But then you have teleport Silvermoon City!

(Love Horde <3)

I have my hearth set to A52 for easy access to TK and for making quick spellcloth.

porting is just as much a part of being a mage as make food and water, you know people are going to ask you for these services, so why not just accept it and make the entire wow community a better place(i know im being overly optimistic asking that question)? and whoever it was saying people should pay 1 or 2g for ports to pay for labor costs was outside their head, it takes half of zero effort to make a port. even without the "labor" cost it only costs 18 silver for a rune of portal, you can kill any mob in the outlands for 2 minutes and get enough for 10 of em, and you dont even have to go out of your way to do this.
i never charge for ports but 75% of the time people give me 2 or 3g just because i didnt tell them they had to pay, i just open the port and they throw some cash at me, and afterwards i feel all warm inside for doing a good deed ;P.
we obviously have the spell so others can benefit from it, otherwise why would we need teleportation? think about it

I agree, I dont charge for the service and always reply to a request I see in the chat channels whether that be a whisper or on general. I only work for tips, and typically thats around 2-5g a pop. only once has someone not tipped, but hey thats ok too...

I like the idea of setting my HS to the place I visit the most, never really thought of that. Always had it set to shattrath which I guess is kinda pointless for a mage. might be setting it to Darkshire tonight for my Kara runs...

Wow, a completely sarcastic tirade and people are still going on about it? I should write something interesting to replace it with.
