Ok, maybe it's me, but I really don't understand what all the fuss is about.
I don't see the big deal in making ports for people for the destination of their choice. Why would you port someone to Shatt if they asked for IF? The rune costs the same no matter where they go. I've never had a problem getting paid to do a port, and if I don't, who cares? It's only 18s, and I'm not doing so many of them that it's gonna break the bank.
As for the food/water requests, just the other night, I made 5g for 10 stacks of water. I don't know why, and I really hope this person wasn't planning on logging out anytime soon, but hey, his choice!
I've been getting alot more /w's to make ports.... I'm guessing because the requests in trade or general are ignored more often than not. If the tell is rude, then I may ignore it, but I usually say "sure" and invite them to a group. I get a couple gold (enough for another 1/2 stack of runes) and I'm on my way. It takes 20 seconds, and it's basically free money.
Like I said, maybe it's just me.
