Have any idea how ******* impossible it is to get a port from a mage? I can yell, I can ask in general, I can /who and send tells, rarely works.
I either get ignored or the person is AFK. Not having portals sucks hardcore ***.
Also, what is with this port EVERYONE to Shattrath bit? Did I ask for Shattrath? No, I asked for Undercity, it takes the SAME GODDAMN RUNE!
So stop being a lazy ***** and find the spell in half a second in your book. Or if you are even close to being a self respecting mage, you should have them all hotkeyed anyway. If I am shelling out a gold or more, then you better port me to where I said.

One of the reasons i use Thunderbluff as homebase, portal spam is the worst, i get 4 requests a minute in Ogri on prime time, so yeah i ignore.
On my alts i ask port to Shatt pay whatever, and put my HS in Shatt and be done with it.
Still used to being a WHM in FFXI where people paid actual money for ports, 1g doesnt even cover the costs to fart in the general direction of the requester.
So its only because im a nice guy at that time, and I only indulge a port request if theyre hopping around in front of my face and im not in a party.
Of course mages are lazy bastards, the answer is in the question, cmon now, why did you pick mage on release? :P
Btw no rate downs from me to a resident mage but just explaining the theory why anyone would do that ;)

Seriously, it's a 10 second walk from the Shatt dump-off point to the portals for Org, TB and UC. Sack up. It's the ultimate retribution for making mages create three different portals for a 10 man UBRS run.
And you don't have to pay me 1g for it. Just give me a rune and I'll do it for you. Of course, you have to find me in a capital city that isn't Shatt. All I need outside of Shatt is the AH on occasions where my AH mule doesn't have enough coin to get what I want, and once I'm done there I'm back to Outland.
So maybe what you're running into is a bunch of people who are actually doing something while you're pestering them for a portal. Give them more than a minute without opening a trade window and *&^%ing up their AH session and maybe they'll be nice and help you out.
I agree filter, when I hit 58 with my druid, it took me forever to get a portal to shatt. I don't get it, when I am on my mage and someone needs a portal, i whisper them, get a gold or two, and they are gone. It isn't that hard to do.
The only time I don't port them is when they whisper me and say. "port me to shatt" Learn how to ask nice and maybe I would.

I get requests for ports almost if not daily. FYI for all those non-mages, it cost money to port not to mention the time it takes to meet up. Sure its not a lot for a level 70, but it all adds up. I cant tell you how many I open up a port for somebody expecting a tip and they end up jumping through the portal without paying for as much as the cost of the reagent. It especially pisses me off to see a 70 jump through without tipping. The only way Ill respond to a request is if I see a G amount attached and the person is in the same city or if its a guildie, which Ill do for free. I usually wont respond to a request unless its at least 2g cause its usually not worth my time to do so. Also as a personal rule, I wont port anybody less than lvl 40 through to shatt as I dont feel theyve earned the right to freely move about the world by using the portals there. So a bit of advice, make it known you are willing to pay for the port upfront and I believe youll get more responses.

If I am expecting a tip, which sometimes I don't care, I sit there and wait and when they ask what I am waiting for I tell them, runes aren't free. Usually trade opens up with a gold or two and then I port them. I have ran into some 70's though that must have money coming out of their ears that have given me 10g. This happens very rarely though.

Had that happen with my rogue when I was opening a lockbox for a 70... I waited a second in case they meant to just give me 1g, but they accepted, so I did too lol.
I never really have any problem giving ports to people, if I am not omw to a raid or already in a party (normally for a raid) and see someone say 'WTB port to Shatt [xG]) then I will quickly invite them to group, it is super easy money, if they are less than level 40 I say 1g > 40 I say 2g just because of the ease to get money.

Weird, I chill in Org all the time, my servers high pop at prime time. I never really get asked for ports/water, like ever. Maybe once a month I get asked for a port.
To answer Poldaran, I am always extremely polite when sending tells, as that is what I am most likely to respond to when on my mage, at least in a positive manner, I always respond one way or another.

I don't know what to tell ya, then. I personally always respond to very polite tells. I ignore tells that aren't polite enough.
I can see what you're getting at. Usually when I have my alt needing a port, I tend to go for Shat just to set my hearth there, but let's say that for some reason, I don't have BC. Then the frustrations would come out.

Same. I go out of my way to open ports in case people do tip me. I never ask for the tips though.
I realized that with full 18-slots, it doesn't hurt for me to keep a stock of 40 Runes of Portals and 40 Runes of Teleportation on me at all times. 80 runes is only 4 slots.

It's not the parts it's the freaking Labour , just like real life.... I always say 2g and if they argue i don't reply. Us mages need to recoup some of the cash we loose on the tables.

Honestly, I'm still amazed that people don't expect to pay for a port to anywhere, regardless of level. As everyone's said above, porting costs money to perform (albeit small, but still). If you want a port from me and you're not a guildie or a friend, its going to cost you, depending on level and destination. Maybe it's just me, but I just don't see a "porting free with your mats" equivalent, hoping for a tip. I don't look at it as a tip - it's the price to do business. That being said, 1g is certainly reasonable to charge for a port, if not even a little below market rate.
Well heres how it works if you are in my guild party or my friend port is on the house might ask you to cover the rune but that would be rare. I don't know you 1g and the request better be polite. If somebody sends a rude request the price goes up to 3g. If you are willing to pay the price ill port you wherever you ask. Honestly why wouldn't a mage port someone its a good source of income.
