Know how to properly gear a rogue, and how to use efficient cycles.

Be 5% higher than every other rogue in the DPS charts and never let your unders hear you complaining. That's how my old one did it. I never knew he was unsatsified with the game till our guild broke and I talked to him through tells heh. Best way to keep moral up in the minions is to have them think everything's just peachy.

Call out the incompetents in raid on vent, you can bet whatever you say after that will be remembered for the rest of their raiding lives.

1: be the best rogue in the raid
2: know the class in general, pve and pvp
3: know how to improve the lesser rogues in your guild
4: know how to raid properly

if you master those, you equal win

Above all else, know your ****. If you're going to be making loot decisions on Rogues, no who gets more of an upgrade, for example. Know combat cycles for every major build. If somebody's slacking, try to help them. If they refuse to accept your help or just don't get better, you need to be able to criticize them harshly enough to get the point across that you won't let it slide, but not so harshly that you **** them off. Some people take criticism better than others. Some people will throw a fit if you even suggest that they aren't perfect, while others will be overjoyed to get advice on how to improve. You need to be able to handle both, and everything in between.

Also as class leader you should have Recount(or any other raid dps mod that breaks down what everyone in the raid is doing, i just think recount is the best) so you can point at quantitative evidence and say, for example, 'your hit rating sucks thats why your dps is 5% lower than mine', etc. It's also a great way to tell who's keeping rupture up when they should be and who's doing stupid things like envenoming. Can also see how many parries/blocks they have so you can tell em to get behind the dam mob. Great raid tool for any class leader really.

Not to have a build like this.

Oh, and not to use the 'Failsteel Lolblade'.

Lastly, use 2 weapons of a same type. Namely, swords.

Yep, that's our class leader. She doesn't take crap about her build, or her gear... and she doesn't want to hear about how any rogue (even our combat/daggers diehard lady) beats her on DPS.

Promotion doesn't really have anything to do with skill in our guild... It's about who's helped the guild more overall. Although, i'd say attending every single MC and Ony raid we did last year as a top-geared rogue (me) is more useful then a few SM runs with the guild leader's alt (her).

Lastly, learn to stack hit. She has as much as my prot warrior in full blues plus 1 epic.

any class leader needs to be willing to do the following things

1. look towards improving his/her knowledge of the class and other classes.
2. understanding how to squeeze out that extra bit of dps/healing from the raid.
3. understanding that his/her dps is important but that the raid dps is also important
4. understanding the benefits of mixing classes /spec in the raid.
5. looking towards making smooth instance/raid runs rather than pulling that extra bit of aggro.
6. coming down hard on anyone who does not understand or will not listen to advice on any of the above while keeping in mind item 1.

here's a bad example of a raid leader (rogue)
1. Popping all 3 shamans in one group (healing) without considering windfury or grace of air effects (or barkskin, or strength of earth, or other buffs.)
2. Not asking the lower dps rogue to lay up expose armor when there's no warrior in the raid.
3. Grouping together the moonkin with the physical damage group. rather than the fero or treeform.
4. Constantly forgetting his/her regents and never applying poisons to his her weapons. (cept in the case of main hand when a shaman is in party for windfury)
5. applying dual crippling poisons for boss fights.
6. not knowing his/her spell rotations for his spec.
