as far as I remember, it just adds 12 to the minimum and maximum damage, hence better for faster weapons, correct me if I'm wrong though.
100% correct, it also only affects white damage.
So basically it adds 12 / <auotshotdelay>
For example with Valanos it will add 12 / 2.8 = 4.29 dps.
A +10 dmg scope would add 10 / 2.8 = 3.57 dps.
Adding crit (assumming 20% crit and mortal shots)
4.29 x 1.26 = 5.40 dps increase
3.57 x 1.26 = 4.49 dps increase
This is ofcourse, without any changes to speed taken into consideration.
With a 2.03 speed (any 2.8 speed bow with BM):
12 / 2.03 = 5.91 (5.91 x 1.26 = 7.45 dps increase)
10 / 2.03 = 4.92 (4.92 x 1.26 = 6.20 dps increase)
So they dont do all that much =P
Especially since this dps increase is the difference you will see on the dps meter, and a decent hunter at the start of karazhan should be pumping out 500-600 dps on bossfights. (auto > steady cycle with 250-300 tooltipdps)
but then again its probably around 1% dps increase and we pay a lot more for say 22 critrating, or 16 hitrating ;P
Formula for those who want to calculate exactly how much dps they get for there cash:
Without mortal shots:
<+dmg> / <autoshotdelay> x <crit%> = <dps increase>
With mortal shots:
<+dmg> / <autoshotdelay> x (<crit%> x 1.3) = <dps increase>
the critscope is easier to calculate:
<tooltipdps> x 0.02 (or 0.026 with mortal shots) = dps increase.
All these calculatons should also show you wich gives you more dps, the crit or the dmg scope. (and how big the difference is between the +7, +10 and +12 scopes)
For BM at least it should be easy, especially if you have wolfslayer you'll need a tooltip dps of well over 400 before the critscope is better.
And i dont think even full T6 will get you that ;)
edit: christ this rant got a lot longer then the 2 line reply i thought it was going to be oO
