With the addition of the "check out people's spec" feature in 2.3, I found myself spending a lot of time looking at other people's specs. One thing I noticed in a staggeringly vast majority of players is that they don't spec into their +crit % talent. (ie. Malice for rogues, Cruelty for warriors, Lethal Shots for hunters, etc.) From my knowledge, these talents are, or used to be considered invaluable.

Realize that I'm not just talking about your average player who skips these talents. People who I pegged for the WoW elite theorycrafters were doing this. I can't make sense of it.

fotm build for rogues right now (now? was? im kinda out of touch recently) is something like 31/30. That can be modified to hit up malice, but a lot of people opt for the points in deep sub instead.

Keep in mind that the 0/31/30 (or 0/33/28) build is for arena play, where resilience kills crit. The (up to) 10% more AP is viewed as more valuable than the 5% to crit.

Most serious PvE builds still include at least 11 points in Assassination to pick up Malice and Relentless Assaults.

That and reaching Prep is a hell of alot more meaningful than 5% crit.

I hadn't considered the resilience reason. I wondered why I always see the Hemo debuff on me when I do arenas on my paladin. It makes perfect sense to me now.

For PvP, though, wouldn't Deadliness be considered more important? I'm assuming that the opponents have 300-450 resilience and will pretty much douse your chances of landing some decent crits.

That's what I got from this thread so far.

that's the theory behind it yes. Sadly without malice i have a base crit of 21%. With resilience taking away at least 10%.... its pathetic. 5% more crit isnt bad.

Doesnt really matter i suppose, im assuming HARP is gonna be teh suk whenever the patch hits anyway. I'll be going 19/42 again or some variation and malice will be back in it.

19/42 is a Combat build.

So... you still get AR...

imo deadliness > malice in arena. But i took other things in sub rather than deadliness personally.

I dont have any math to back it up, but ive always been starved for AP.

Arena gear is lacking AP, but will still give you some crit.

So... do the math.

Not to mention the whole resilience argument.
