Please stop AoEing DeadminesFollow

Hey,

Lemme start of by saying that AoEing is GREAT for dungeons in general. However, there are a few exceptions to this rule. Deadmines is a generally HUGE exception.

1.) Tanks in Deadmines are an interesting bunch. New players tend to not realize that they are MUCH better of in Defensive Stance than they are in Battle Stance. This takes away their best tanking abilities. Even if they're not new, they only have so many abilities to pull hate off of you anyway. This gets much better in higher levels.

Moreover, if YOU have hate on you, then the healer has to go through much more mana to keep you alive.

2.) In a decent party in Deadmines, you shouldn't be fighting any more than 3 mobs at a time. AoEing 3 mobs at once is pretty good. AoEing one half dead mob and another mob is a bit wasteful.

AoEing less than 3 mobs actually hurts your DPS. You'll do far more damage by using single target spells AND save on mana. (Technically, you'd do more DPS to two mobs, buts its very likely one of them will come over and smack you before you're done casting. That means you'll be losing precious seconds on Blizzard.)

3.) Polymorph is your friend. More importantly, its the party's friend. You're in a pretty unique position. You're a solid damage dealer AND you have the ability to outright take a mob out of combat. Polymorph does wonders for adds and can seriously save the party from certain doom if used properly.

Now is this to say you should never AoE Deadmines? Hardly. If the circumstances are right, then by all means nuke away. Just remember that a lot of parties are made up of well-meaning but rather ill-informed newbies.

And I hope this doesn't sound like a rant, it wasn't intended as such. Just been through Deadmines a lot recently and have noticed a lot of this happening and helping to cause party wipes. Kinda funny to sit back and see how long it takes for the squishy Mage to go down after he takes hate away from 2 Elites plus 4 non-elite adds...

Only thing about Poly is that everyone still seems to want to hit the sheep at that level. Even in SM, Poly is next to useless when people hit sheeped mob. I actually stop using it when I can tell that the PUG just can't grasp the concept. You try explaining it, but they just....don't....get.....it.

Very simple "If a single mob is approaching me, leave it alone. I will take care of it."

Nope, some hero comes running to save me, and hits sheep....

Good fun :)

You've gotten into runs with noobs/newbs. Most of them don't even realize this place exists, and thus your thread will just be read by a bunch of folks who already know this.

Indeed.... those that need this the most have no idea it exists.

I hate Deadmines.

My lifelong passion is to become a GM through treachery and deceit, and then raze the basic code which allows the instance to exist. Instead of a swirly blue gate, there will be a sign saying "Closed!" and a little smily face drawn in red crayon.

Anyway. You'll grow out of Deadmines. One in every five people running the dungeon are new players, and they'll be like "oo! aoe! SPAMfest."

O lots of people on my server know about deadmines.

its wailing caverns and shadowfang keep [which has the best gear in stats and looks at that level ANYWHERE] that they have no idea about.

Even hordeside.

It isn't about not knowing that deadmines exist, it is the wow.allakhazam.com boards that they do not know exists. I am hoping that the majority, if not all, of the mages that post in this section know better than to AoE randomly.

I only partually PuG VC or any of the other low level places anymore. Reason being is that you don't know what kind of group your gonna be in.

I always bring a healer a tank and 1 cc/dps class and the rest fill in as needed. My wife usually plays the DPS section but ometimes she likes to heal to. my friend always plays healer or tank and I do what ever is left over. If the PuG people keep messing up I tell them what they are doing wrong and if they refuse to listen /kick

/4 LF1M DPS VC. pure and simple.

I had a mage that would wind up his strongest spell before my friend even got anything but 1 concecrate up. I told him to wait a sec to get at least more than one tick of concecrate on the mob before just trying to OMG DPS the mob. He didn't listen so I stopped healing him for his idiocy.

He got mad and even cussed me out as well as my wife and my Brother (Best Friend) so he got the boot, we picked up 1 more and finished the instance 4 man due to the fact the rogue in the group was that mages brother. Meh.

I find it funny when mages try to polly mobs in my consecration range... good times lol

Anyways, why would your pally friend start with consecration? I always "mark" the first mob to be nuked by judging him, after re-sealing I then drop consecration and start getting more aggro on the other mobs ;)

If the ppl don't get it I simply mark the first mob with a skull, rest stays unmarked as the rest doesn't really matter.. if they still dont get it I say "The skull mark is NOT for decoration" - If that doesn't work, salvation does xD

Also a mage Pyroblast-pulling a 3-mob pull isnt such a bad idea, righteous defense while they approach him -> judge the pyroed mob and you have a lot of threat ahead of the other dpsers.

Now.. exactly what was my point?
Ah I know, if u want to AoE, get a pala tank above lvl 23 :P

I know, but it was my hope that sometime in the future some newb would stumble onto this forum and maybe see this thread. Then maybe read it, and follow some honest advice. Maybe. Maybe maybe maybe.

Or I could just go and nuke more Horde players. Hmm.... Gotta go.
