Need help tweaking my plansFollow

#1 Jan 02 2008 at 3:28 PM Rating: Decent
In a similar situation to my hunter (who received an epic flyer on dinging 70), I want to get epic flight form around the time I ding 70 on my druid. To do this, I understand that I will need to fight a summonable boss in Heroic Sethekk Halls. I plan on tanking him.

I have made plans for my tanking gear at 70. So far, here is what I have.

Badge of Tenacity
Braxxis' Staff of Slumber

Here is what I'm going to get:

Stylin' Purple Hat
Heavy Clefthoof set (Chest, leggings, and boots)
Gladiator's Dragonhide Spaulders
Gladiator's Dragonhide Gloves

Here is what I have that I may still use:

Necklace of the Deep (socketed with 2 +12 stam gems)
Bogstrok Scale Cloak

That leaves me belt, bracers, 2 rings, and 1 trinket, assuming I do not replace anything.

Right now I am nearly revered with Cenarion Expedition. I may shoot for the Earthwarden before doing this.

Are my choices so far good? Should I ignore the socket bonuses on the Clefthoof set and socket straight stam? I have heard a green quest reward in SMV, something like Manimal's Cinch, is a good tanking belt. Would that cut it for heroics, or should I shoot for something like the Vindicator's Dragonhide Belt?

Prick.

Myeh, I wouldn't wait. Earthwarden rocks but Revered -> Exalted will take too long, you can get by with Braxxis as long as you have +35 agility on it.

Stuff looks good to me. I'd stack Stam unless you need those sockets to boost def rating, but with that PvP gear you're probably uncrittable thanks to your combo of def rating and resilience. I'd read the bible of pre-raid tanking gear if I were you.

Yeah, the belt is indeed called Manimal's Cinch.(Damn, I gotta get me some of that PvP gear. I just checked out the Vindicators belt you mentioned...50 less armor but 17 more agility, 20 more stamina, and 26 resilience. Neato. I'd get that.)

Since you're focused on stuff that's easy to get, stuff that in my experience gets you (me anyway) Heroic-ready, here's what I'd recommend. Keep in mind I don't PvP enough to get that kinda gear so your options from that world might be better but this is all stuff that's pretty easy to score.
There's really good bracers from another SMV quest calledUmberhowl's Collar.
For easily-obtainable rings I recommend Iron Band of the Unbreakable and Delicate Eternium Ring for dodgeness.
For the trinket I'd get Adamantine Figurine off Blackheart the Inciter in Slabs. Even easier is Charm of Alacrity from an easy quest chain.

Cool, thanks for the help man. I'll make sure and read that thread you linked. I found a guildie to make me that ring, and I have the dodge trinket from the Hellfire Peninsula quest. I'll try to get the one from Shadow Labs. I use that on my prot warrior and have seen it drop like 20 times, so I shouldn't have any trouble getting it again.

This thread on Emmerald's forums is an extensive guide to gearing your bear tank for Kara.

It gives you multiple options for each slot and ranks each.

There's also a nifty leatherworking skill that can add 240 armor to a pair of gloves, that =big boost in bear form. If you do Kara there is a girl out front who will give you a choice of rings, one with some nice armor, sta, and +def. I think you need violet eye rep for that, not too difficult to get though.

Whoa, the armor kit is multiplied by bear form?

No it isn't unfortunately. Same with the Armor enchants as well. It would be nice though :)

I thought it was...maybe I'm thinking something about my badge. Anyway, +240 armor is still pretty decent when leather is as good as it gets.

Ok, I've been really progressing with my plans. Just decided on a whim to make my second trinket the Darkmoon Card: Vengeance and got that completed last night.

I also got Gladiator's Dragonhide Shoulders. Red and yellow socket, socket bonus of +3 resilience. Now, I'm gonna use these shoulders for PVP, until I get my resto set all worked out (I wanna go resto for arena, so I'm going to make a full resto PVP set). What should I socket them with? Ignore the resilience bonus and just throw in 2 solid stars of elune? Pay attention to the bonus and use some mixed color gems like Shifting Nightseye (+4 Agi / +6 Stam) and Steady Talasite (+4 resil / +6 stam)?

Same with the Heavy Clefthoof set. There are blue and yellow gems, dodge rating bonuses. Ignore the bonuses and use straight Solid Stars of Elune?
