Rapid KillingFollow

Ok, back again and with another question. Rapid killing, is it more for CD purposes or does the "20%" (not sure if I'm Right) Arcane Shot damage bonus worth all the buzz? I have heard from a few Hunters they didnt put the 2 points in Rapid Kill and put them in effincy (sp). I have also been told its preference, Not really needed or a total waste of points. Any Feedback comments and the like are most welcomed and thanks in advance to those whom reply.

It's a CD thing. The 20% damage bonus might amount to a little bit over an hour of grinding, but it isn't worth 2 talent points. Those two talent points though, will afford you a minimum of one more rapid fire on bosses in both instances and raids.

Besides, where else are you going to spend those points when it comes to PvE?

Generally speaking on boss fights, I'll start out with a normal shot rotation once the tank has a bit of threat and build until it's time to FD. If the tank has a good 20-30k threat built up by this point, I'll pop Rapid Fire + Bladefist's Breadth and go nuts. 2 minutes later, I'll use Bladefist's again, and a minute after that (if necessary) I'll use Rapid Fire again.

It's not too often on the raid boss fights I've done up to this point where I have a chance to use Bladefist's Breadth a third time, but that will likely be changing soon. I'm not much for doing the math to see how much benefit it would be over time to wait for my Rapid Fire cooldown to use my +AP trinket or if using them as they become ready after the first use is best. The way it stands now, if our raid group isn't pumping out enough dps, it's because we've usually got two dps classes below the tank on the damage meter, so I just blame them and keep doing what I'm doing :P

Rapid Killing... Love it :)

When instancing and you are kiling trash, you kill one mob, oh its up! Kill another mob and it come up again :) so makes your DPS in instances a little better, and Boss fights with mobs, love those, get rapid killing off a mob them Aimed shot the boss... yeah its pretty sweet :)

I had dumped it prior to 2.3. Now with the changes in 2.3, I BLOW through opponents in multiples using Rapid Killing.

In instances, it's invaluable when you are in crazy mode, running, CC'ing and blasting everything in sight. That boost is huge, and when you are killing a lot of softer targets, they go down even faster.

I used it so much in shutting down Manaforge Ara yesterday that it NEVER left my buff bar. Of course I had full aggro on me at that point but I didn't care, just wanted the shutdown. I had over ten mobs on me at once and was dropping them like mad. Definitely a good 'crazy mode' talent.

If you like to kill targets quickly, blow through your mana pool before you stop killing, and just love the large hits, this is your talent. If you like to cautiously set up before each kill, well, it's a total waste of 2 talent points.

it boosts one shot. Only One. That's not going to impact your dps or make you kill anything faster, unless you're one shotting all the mobs with aimed shot or something.

I may be wrong on this but I think he was talking about using the Rapid fire ability that increases your attack speed, not the bonus buff that is granted after killing a mob.

Then his comment doesn't really make sense. Even with the Rapid Killing talent it only will stay on your buff bar for 15s every 3 min.

(note: I do think this talent is worth it for the decreased CD given the other choices)

I'll agree and say that it's lackluster for the killing buff, but for the reduced cooldown, it's awesome. A 5 minute cooldown is harsh to use up on trashmob fights in instances and raids, but a 3 minute cooldown is useable. Using it every 3 minutes on 2-3 mob pulls will shoot you up in the damage meter.

No, it boosts the next shot AFTER killing something. If you are dropping targets like fly's it never leaves your bar, at least it was always there when I glanced at it. In the example, those little dudes drop easy, especially with multi-shot, Volley and immolation on them. Towards the end of the shutdown, there are bunches of dudes running around to hit. Sadly, they are all on you at that point, you get one FD at that point, but normally end up pulling them all back anyway. The trick is to stay alive for those last 30 seconds...

So even if you kill something with Rapid Killing, it re-ups immediately.

Yes, the Rapid Fire cooldown is good also but by itself, IMO, possibly not worth the 2 talent points as only in the longest of Boss fights would you ever get to use it. I'm not sure I've ever run into a boss I've fought for over two minutes. Probably have but haven't timed anything. I haven't done any of the big Raid bosses yet. Think I did a Drek fight that seemed to last forever, too bad I didn't if I drew his attention! ^_^

I use the crazy mode more often but do like the Rapid Fire cooldown too if I'm in a hurry. In PVE, don't use it much. Might be super beneficial PVP though.

NorthAI pretty much hit it on the spot. To be honest, the killing buff, while nice, pretty much sucks. The only way you really notice it is off of an Aimed Shot crit. (4.5k damage ftw!)

But the reduction on the Rapid Fire cooldown is incredibly awesome. I, being an idiot, never really put points into that skill until I talked it over with another hunter in my guild.

PvE specced, without those 2 points, I would pull the same DPS as PvP specced with those two points. Normally the difference between my PvE spec and PvP spec DPS would be anywhere from 50-100.

I have yet to try out a PvE spec with those two points. I'm sure it will boost my DPS considerably.

(Note, I'm talking about DPS in SSC/TK. For 5 mans, it's rare that you'd ever use Rapid Fire more than once. Maaaaaybe twice. If you're using it 3 times in a five man, your party is full of fail.)

Just to add my own 2 cents to your comment:

Unfortunately, no you're wrong. There is a bug with this ability that I'm surprised more people haven't discovered. The buff applies to any shot still making it's way to the enemy, it does not apply to the shot after it's fired, but the shot that connects during the time period your buff is up.

So you can in fact, used Aimed Shot followed quickly by an Arcane Shot and receive the Rapid Killing Buff for both shots. I use this exclusively to 2-shot lower lvl enemies. Aimed Shot can crit up to 3.5K+ and Arcane can crit for around 1.5K, dealing roughly 5K Damage in a very short amount of time with the Rapid Killing Buff. To me it makes grinding and farming so much easier.

The only problem with this bug is that you need to be farther away from your next target, to allow both shots to be fired before the first one reaches the target. In otherwords if you're 5 feet away from your target, it will take all of 1 second to hit, but if you stand farther away, you give yourself time to fire off that 2nd shot before your first one hits.

But to get back on Topic, I agree with NorthAI it's all about the 2 minute reduction, the added damage is just a bonus.

Ah, that's cool. Same mechanic as a warriors spell reflect I would guess.

Joobishwun, the casting bar mod Quartz helps a lot with this. It shows when a spell will actually end based on the instantaneous ping you had when the spell started, so it's not perfect, but it helps to let you know exactly when to push the key for the next shot in order to get it into the spell queue at the right time (I generally hit the next key about .2sec before the "red" area that shows when the spell will go off). With my latency (usually around 80-120)I can often get Aim/Arcane off so close to each other that you can't see the difference between their respective graphics :D

40% increase for 15 seconds every 300 seconds = 5% damage increase.
40% increase for 15 seconds every 180 seconds = 8% damage increase.

So it gives a 3% increase overall (excluding the buff).
Well worth 2 talent points.

That % increase is dependent on the trinket you are using. So, yes, it's good when coupled.

But in essence, even though I don't use the Rapid Fire feature as much, I still feel it's worth the talent points. PVE only, it's probably not going to have much of an impact on things. The reduced CD is rarely used by me in PVE. Then again, I pretty much coast most of the time in PVE. Sadly, it probably doesn't make me any sharper when I get into real fights... >.<

Thanks all for the replies. it seems to me its a good solo trait to have in some situations. I played with the effeincy points without rapid killing activated in my talent tree. Although I may miss my mana pool going down a bit less than it normally would but me personally cant tell the diffrence because I drop my targets pretty quick anyways. =) But with knowing about the bug now I would probubly drop things a hell of a lot faster than I do now. Thanks for the advice all.
