I took up tailoring at 60 with my priest, basically for the reasons Helluna stated.
The PMC robe alone (which you can't even make until 375) takes 14 primal mooncloth. You can make 2 pieces a pop, so that's 7 4-day cooldowns, and you'll have to wait 28 days to get your robe. The belt and shoulders take less of the primal mooncloth, but it still takes a while with that blasted 4 day cooldown.
The alternative, of course, is buying the primal mooncloth at the AH, but on my server, prices are ridiculous. By starting to powerlevel tailoring at 60, I had all my primal mooncloth made and waiting for me when I hit 375 in tailoring.
You could also look for a PMC tailor who is willing to sell their cooldown. It can be alot cheaper to do that than to buy the cloth itself at the AH. Just make sure you supply the mats. On my server, I can get about 20-25g for the cooldown as opposed to 50g or so for 2 pieces of cloth.
Good luck with it!
