Disgusted with the AH of late.Follow

#1 Jan 01 2008 at 1:45 PM Rating: Good
I have been browsing the AH on my rogue and my druid looking for items.
Now I remember back in the pre-bc days, when you used to have to fork out 40g for a Phantom Blade.

I have been browsing the AH the past few days, trying to get a new MH sword,
Phantom Blades are up on the AH for almost 100g >.>

And trying to find gear for my druid, every piece of armor around her level is minimum 4g buyout.

Anyone else finding that there are ******** putting old-world items up on the AH for absurd prices?

Yep. But still, just do dailies on your main and you can buy plenty of gear and get it all enchanted. And of course that same type of stuff drops when you're questing on your alt, so sell those drops for the same price and you'll be fine.

I would sell the stuff I find for the same price, but I'm against making other level 20's pay 4-5g for a lvl 20 green chest piece.

Well the thing is anyone with a 70 can make ridiculous easy gold now. Sure some people don't have 70s but I think they're the exception not the rule. They can also sell their own greens for those prices to fund their AH addiction, and like any new player they should be mining + skinning through the early levels to make gold.

I'm just saying if a good level 16 piece for my alts is 3.5g I don't think twice about it.

Problem is that you are one in few. Someone else's banker alt is just going to buy your item and relist at 4-5g, so you might as well be the one making the money off it.

New players shouldn't be visiting the AH anyway. You get some much stuff through questing that anything you buy is replaced in 3 levels. They are throwing money away...might as well throw it towards you.

I disagree with this, just because they buy an item doesn't mean they'll replace it in three levels.

My druid is 25, And has not had a single wrist piece drop for her yet (that wasn't grey quality) so she's still running around with white wrists from the starting quests.

The assumption that they'll replace them is thinking that they will have the luck of having a piece for every slot drop or be acquired from quests, which happens to few people.

I used to think this until now that I'm leveling a new character on Demon Soul without a 70 to supply me easy money or gear.

It's not like this at all. Quest rewards suck.

The AH on Khaz'goroth is selling nothing but discount GAYNESS. Prices have dropped to an all time low and no one wants to change it...

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO MAKE MONEY WITHOUT INFLATION!?!?!

Yeah...my friend on Khaz chucked a fit over that. He has a massive backlog of lootz that he can't sell.

Me, I make inflation work for me. Find a monopoly on something like dust or ore and monopolise seven types of crap out of it while you still can. My warlock had 250g by level 28 without even really trying, just by selling dust for 2g a piece when the market was empty. Per piece, not per stack. People with level 70s and very little patience will pay out the butt for trivial stuff if the only other alternative is actual work.

You have plenty of options open to you to get gear at lower levels. Quests, instances and random drops are bountiful. Not to mention crafting, even though everyone swears up and down its a money sink, my first character, in my sig, has never been broke and never had to farm to get money for mounts and such.

I may have mis-worded my response, but what I meant is you shouldn't be running off to the AH to buy a new set of gear every level. Drop off your drops and if you NEED something (as in your case) then go ahead and pick something up, but consider that you may do a quest very soon that gives you something better/comparable...then what good did it do you?

Again, crafting, instances, both viable and cost a lot less than inflated AH prices. Plus, give you a chance to collect some stuff to sell your self.

What faction are you on Demon Soul? I have several horde alts on there.

I thought the same thing with the Phantom Blade. Kept seeing it for 80g or so, finally saw one for 60g and got it... mainly because I liked the look. Had kept it for quite some time until I went to outlands and got better weapons.

But there are some stuff on the AH that, imo, are out of hand. For example, for one Greater Nether Essence it's been around 7-10g. But like everyone says, around 70 (or even 63 like me), getting gold is no problem now.

You could try getting the mats together and then ask in /trade for a blacksmith willing to make it for you for a tip with your mats. If you were on Cenarius Horde-side, I'd make it for you.

You could also try NOT BUYING A PHANTOM BLADE.

Sound dumb? Well, Phantom is what...lvl 44ish? Ok. You're going to spend 60-80-100g on something you're going to replace in literally 3-5 lvls?

Try this instead- it's called the Thrash Blade. It's free. Get a guild. Get a group. Run Mara. The Princess is easy.

Or, if you REALLY are in dire need to spend money, pay a lvl 70 to run you through Mara. I don't condone it, but if it's between that and buying something which you'll replace, do it.

I got shammed by the Phantom Blade. Bought one for 35g (good luck i guess?). Replaced it after Mara. Felt like a ****** cuz i wasted 25g getting fiery on it.

Thrash Blade will last you probably until Outlands. Save yourself the grief.

Yes I know of the Thrash Blade, but obviously you've never had a toon on Vek'Nilash.

I think there might be....1-2 actual groups per week, and my guildies hardly help out either. Lvl 70's are probably a lot more nicer on your server than they are on mine, all the good ones are already preoccupied.

You can't PUG Mara with the new nerfs?

Scratch that, you can't PUG any of the pre-BC instances?
#17 Jan 02 2008 at 2:52 PM Rating: Decent
When I'm on i'm lucky if there's any groups at all in LFM.

I can make 100g in like 45 minutes on my main, mara is a dump in a wasteland that nobody visits. Oh believe me I tried to run mara, I even had a few groups.

Group 1, finally after 2 hours questing and trying to get a group together we're set to go. I head to the stone, finally get there some idiot leaves party. Just leaves. Great now I'm in worthless desolace and we can't find another, that was a waste of the greater part of an evening.

Another group, this one makes it inside, guess what? Disconnect problems like crazy, first its our tank, then its a mage. Can't find replacements, we wasted close to an hour having someone disconnect every 2-3 pulls.

Finally a last group, oh great the hunters a moron and running ahead of the tank the whole time. The tank has no clue whatsoever about multi mob tanking, our healer keeps dying, our hunters an idiot.

Yeah. I'd rather spend 45 minutes on my main and just farm up mats for a quick upgrade for an alt. I do it all the time. I try to run dungeons, I pretty much run them all on every toon, but sometimes crap like that just happens.
