Frustrated Fighting Casters...Suggestions?Follow

As you can tell from the title...I'm incredibly frustrated fighting casters (in PvE). It's just horrible. As I'm sure you all already know, I'm protection specced, and it simple takes forever to kill them (and hurts...a lot.) Now, I've been thinking maybe I should carry around a 2-hander to take out casters. Is this a good idea? Am I stupid for not having done this for the last 20 levels or so?

I'm already throwing up the resistance aura of the appropriate type (assuming I have it) but when the casters are throwing 300+ damage fireballs, 400+ damage from that instant fire spell, whatever it's called, or mid-to-high 200s from shadow bolt...I'm taking a lot more damage than I'm use to. I'm trying to take them on singly, but if I get two, it's a close fight, and three quite often simply means I'm toast.

I'm really up for any suggestions.

I carry around a 2H for casters, and when I have to kill things singly, it's less painful. Casters are, and always will be, a pain for a Paladin though, particularly a Prot since we kill so slowly. Best you can do is just put on your DPS set and heal through any of their spells. SoJustice wouldn't be a bad idea, but yea, prepare to have to heal a lot more than normal, blow CDs more often (bubble and Hammer), etc..

Yeah, I always sealed Justice against NPC casters, saved a few headaches(Holy paladin from 20-70). Use the hammer right before they get a spell off, as well.

Don't waste time trying to use Seal of Light/Mana to try to keep healed up, as you'll benefit a lot more from either stunning them or killing them as fast as you absolutely can. I used a 2 hander from about 30-55, and it certainly helped.

One thing that i try to do is get out of LoS, (Line of Sight), around a corner maybe. They will follow u and come alot closer to u, at least into your area effects, and will generally hit you once, cast a spell, hit u once. And of target them first if u are fighting a group. Really seems only way to slow them down. I hate casters, they suck.

1)Blessing of Freedom, PvP trinket. Those two alone will allow you to flat out devastate most casters without a clue.

2)Throw heals off before you are critical, less chance you will eat a silence or fear at a critical juncture. If you eat a silence at 60% health you can recover, if you eat a silence at 20% you are dead or forced to pop bubble.

3)Judgement of Wisdom, watch your mana bar go up as they cry. Since mana directly affects your dps and survivability in world pvp it is worth putting up.

4)Most importantly level smartly and learn to grow eyes on the back of your head. You would be surprised how much simple camera rotation and finding a secluded spot will remove the hassle.

I found I could hold my own against SP and Locks well into lvl 50's. Mages are just one class you are never going to be successful at in a 1v1 world pve setting. The trick is outlasting them. Plenty of times I have lived through the burst dps and watched them go oom trying to kill me and had the chance to run when they tried to drink or allowed them to run once he was almost out.

This thread is on PvE, not PvP, by the way.

Casters aren't that much of a problem really, in PvE it's always the heavy hitting mobs that take me down (in instances that is). For casters, simply close the distance asap, stun, and then hit them with Judgement of the Crusaudor, then Seal of Righteousness. If there are a couple stun one and kill the other. If you are about to die, just bubble, bandage, and carry on.

Also, if you close the distance, alot of them start hitting you with their stick instead of their spells.

Casters = downtime for prot pallys. More than one = close call, if not spirit run.

Depends on gear+spec for holy pallys, normaly I could kill casters quick enough & have plenty of mana to heal up & continue as holy.

Ret pallys can pretty much own caster NPCs, with 2 types of stuns (pending humanoid) and good enough burst DPS casters were normaly more welcome for me.

Definately carry a 2-hdr & I'd suggest using it unless your grinding high lv mobs for your level, multi-mob grinding, or tanking. Almost anyway you look at it... a good 2-hdr for mobs near your level should be the fastest way to kill.

Use this 2-hdr for all casters. Go pure damage... per the post above, SoL/SoW are just not enough to keep up with a caster. SoJ is null after 2 stuns, so make sure you don't over use that (I normaly just go SoR/SoC from the get-go). If you find your still dealing minimal damage, might want to look into some +spell damage gear.

Arcane torrent, blessing of freedom and pvp trinket and you're ''mage immune''<3. + those other spells you probably have as pala.
