#1 Dec 31 2007 at 6:52 PM Rating: Decent
Hey guys im kinda new to WOW (ive made like 12 chacters but never got any of them ouve 17) any ways i have been reading lots of guides and see that most say that u should have alch and herb as your 2 proffesions but what are the things that a alch can make that is very useful to the rogue... i know that cooking is good to have cuz u can make that enegry tea but what are the class speific advantages of having alch and herb over any other proffisions. U get poisions at lev 20 so what can i make as a alch that i would realy want as a rogue.
Thx in advance for all your help guyes and im glade to be here on the forums!!

The most useful potion for rogue imo is restorative elixer. Before you get cloak of shadows popping one of those during an encounter with a lock/priest is like having an "I win" button. Of course health pots, swiftness pots, and underwater breathing pots (for lockpicking) are all nice as well.

I'm personally sold on enchanting, because you can make a lot of money soloing the level 60 dungeons and De'ing the loot for shards, which sell very well.

Leatherworking is nice as well (for obvious reasons).

Well at first you have 2 primary preffesions

3 secondary proffesions

and poisons at lvl 20

as a rogue i like for my 2 primary professions to be engineering/mining
skinning/leatherworking
Alch/herb

3 secondary you dont have a choice, you have to have cooking, fishing, and first aid

You dont need alch, you can do anything you want

(spelling isnt my strong point)

I have engineering and mining on my Rogue, grenades + goggles + rocket launcher = win in PvP, Jumper cables reduces down time in instances and raids. Professions generally don't play that big of a role in your class effectiveness, skills and builds typically account for 95% of that regardless of PvP and PvE.

I think it's because as an herbalist you farm swifthistle, which is used in thistle tea. And then with herbalism goes alchemy.

Alchemy/herbalism is a real money maker if you have the time and patience to farm herbs. Everyone buys pots, from those raiding the first content of TBC and to those doing Black Temple.

Leatherworking/skin...well my main hunter has leatherworking and it was just boring to take the same professions again, and personally i don't like the set too much (Primalstrike ...).

Engineering/mining...again mining is a big money maker and the googles from engineering are damn very good. Combined with grenades and other stuff, like the unique flying mount, it's a nice combination that i don't regret taking it. But be aware that, if you'll do mostly raiding at lvl 70, and find a replacement for the googles, i don't see another advantage of keeping engineering. Right now blizz neglected engineering giving us just one trinket, some rocket boots and a pair of googles =/.

"goggles"

and ya you'll replace the goggles, but consider a few facts.

1. Your getting to make these goggles which are loads better than anything you can get your hands on at the time and in the future. You wont be replacing them for quite a while. You'll also save time. Cause..again... you get this great head gear till you find something better much later.

so whats better

Current item ---make Goggle 1 --- super Upgrade

Current item ---farm upgrade 1 --- farm up 2 ---farm up3 --- super upgrade.

Engineering increases a rogues raid viability. mostly because of the repair bot and goblin rezing devices.

Iam an alch and it helps me loads.

Alch can be very profitable since everyone wants certain potions. And all the potions you have are demanded by certain classes. Guilds like alchemists.

Many elixers exist which are potions which give you long terms [1 hour for the normal ones] bonus's to stats.

Your potions will only be replaced by better potions you get to make.

Certain potions which offer utilities such as increases run speed, faster attack, underwater breathing are also very useful.

Being a BS/Miner was also a decent choice pre-2.3 because as a sword smith you were able to make the best OH sword for a raiding rogue for quite some time and as a hammer smith you could make the best MH mace for a Mace Spec rogue in the arena. However, with the first season of arena items being honor purchasable, this profession is only pretty ok.

You can buy Flash Powder from a vendor, and you'll find it in a lot of junkboxes. No need for Alchemy for that. You don't need Alchemy to make poisons either.

Swordsmith is never a decent profession for Rogue. 2.0 to 2.3 it still sucks.

Sword of Latros (From BM) > 100 x Fireguard
Dont waste time/money crafting that crap.

Hammersmiith's Mace is a much much better item. Drakefist > S1 Mace
