I want to make a new toon and im kinda stuck between making a mage or a shaman. Now when I make my toons i focus mainly on pvp. But when looking for a new toon to make i also focus on leveling speed also. So i was woundering can I have some opinions on who do you think is more accepted in the pvp world. Again between a mage and a shaman.

Mages really don't come into their own until later levels. Once you get ice barrier and those other nice frosty talents though, you can really do quite well. I've been top kills and top damage as a frost mage before, so mages are a PvP viable class. On the other hand, it's difficult for some to level up early on. You'll end up doing a little more walking in ghost form than other classes might. If you stick with it though, you'll have a solid toon who can do well in any BG.

If you don't want to spend a lot of time on your toon, bringing him up to higher levels, go with a shaman. You'll probably level faster with him, and you can start PvPing earlier.

So, it kinda depends on what you want to do. (Personally I'd go with a mage because they RAWK)

A mage can be an excellent leveler and is always welcome in a party for the good dps and crowd control.

Leveling speed could be faster with a shaman, just depends on how you spec him. It is also nice for a mage to have the opportunity to AoE grind (although I believe that questing is more efficient xp/hr if done correctly).

I'd say only roll a sham if you want to heal.

Mages need less support to be effective dps, and are therefore more favorable as a pvp dps class. The shields, poly, snares and roots allow you to do well solo. Basically, mages just get a hell of a lot more survivability and cc.

Shammies only get shocks, and nearly all their casts are easily interrupted. An elemental shaman has massive burst and dps, but you really need the support of a team to be able to get the time and distance you need to cast.

Melee shamans get kited way too easily to be worthwhile in pvp, also, the bulk of their burst relies on a (I believe it was around 16%) windfury proc.

Resto shamans are good healers though, and have all the features people like about shamans in general, but can last longer without running oom.

I believe you'd level faster as a shaman.

I have both a shammy and mage and so far they've been levelling at about the same rate.

I have both a shaman and a mage. To answer the question as to whats better it depends as a shaman u have some flexibility ie: healing, melee, or ranged DPS. As a mage you will constantly be watching your back on a PvP server (cloth sucks) but it is a fun class, and no matter what your spec you'll always be in the back casting FB,IB or AB/AM. leveling as an enahancement shaman to 60 was a breeze since the patch, mobs die so fast. IMO I would make the shaman since once you hit 70 and get bored you could switch specs to something completely different. When it comes to pvp i could not tell you which is better i have yet to pvp at level 70 on my shammy.
