Protection Pally Item Question (50 Quest and Trinkets)Follow

Okay...so I'm looking at the items from the pally quest at 50 (the Sunken Temple one.) Am I crazy, or is the ring far and away my best choice as a protection pally (especially since my rings are way out of date)?

Secondly, I'm wondering how early I need to start worrying about getting spell damage. This arises because in not too awful long, I'll have to choose rewards from this quest and this quest. Now, from the second one, I'm assuming I'm going to take the defense rating trinket at this point, unless someone suggests otherwise. But from the other quest, the attack power trinket seems like it will do me more good while I'm leveling (does +healing even apply to seal/judgement of light?).

Thoughts?

Well for the spelldamage, I would say you don't really have to worry about it until 65 or 66. That's when you can get spell swords and maces that have enough spelldamage to make a difference. Until then just keep gearing like a warrior, grabbing that defense rating and block rating and stamina, etc...

I would suggest taking the AP trinket in the first quest and the Defense trinket in the second quest.

Pretty much what Jack said - stack warrior type stuff for your tanking set. However for your soloing/levelling armor set, I found as prot that levelling went better when I started wearing the +Spell Dmg gear. I don't know if a prot spec benefits that much from Attack Power. I know that's useful in ret builds I just never stacked it as prot so I don't really know.

AP will effect the amount of dmg your weapon will do per swing. So it is completely useless for tanking pallies. As for stats, like Jack said you want Stam and Avoidance(Parry, Dodge and Block) until you hit Outland and you can find a fast spell-dmg weapon. STR is okay in that it gives you extra block VALUE(not block chance, don't confuse the two), but it's a secondary stat to Stamina and Avoidance.

GL! =)

I know it is for tanking, do you also mean that if they have a solo set (a set for not tanking, but for questing and levelling) and it's stacked for that it's still pointless? I suspect as much but i never tried it, I just went with stacking +Spell Dmg for my soloing set in Outland.

Ah, I do have a "solo set" for questing, dailies, etc. This set consists more of mana regen and Int, mostly the Righteous set. I did have a fast "Rogue-ish" sword for this set, but found that using a spell dmg weapon did speed things up a little more.

As for AP armor, haven't tried it. I took STR for a while on a few pieces, since it will give you some block value, but I'd rather have some Int than anything else on a solo set since I won't be healed and therefore won't get mana back.

So any further than stacking AP with a weapon, I haven't done, but my assumption is you'd probably want Int or Spell dmg instead of AP since Spell dmg is where more than 90% of your dmg comes from, even while soloing.

Maybe if you're in a caster-heavy area? Idk, be nice to find out how it works for anyone that is bored enough to try.

My solo set is my AP/Crit-heavy, Thunder-Wielding ret set. Works fine for me, and I can grind solo mobs pretty quickly.

IT'S ONLY FOR PVP, as soon as I do regular PvE content I'll switch back to prot, but prot = fail in pvp. And I don't like failure.

Which is why I just said ***** it to PvP :)

But in regards to the OP, I just wanna add one thing to what's been said. That first quest you linked, I have to half-disagree with Jack (OMG, I didn't think that'd ever happen). I'd say pick up the spell trinket UNLESS you have 2 trinkets already that are more tank-like, then grab the AP one for a solo set (Ret type gear, if you have one that is). The spell damage isn't necessary till mid 60s, but it'll help you more than AP will for tanking.
