lock v. shadow priestFollow

I just rolled a priest for the first time. Honestly, I've only ever played a lock, and I am very happy to use my lock. I hear that spriest is fun and they have some nasty dmg to deal... I'd like some opinions from my fellow locks on this topic, please. Thanks in advance.

Well I don't have a lock but my brother has a high level one and I have a 70 Shadow Priest. If you like to deal damage, then a Warlock can do more, but a Priest can also heal or go Discipline and still be real good. To be honest they're both great classes, and in each all 3 talent trees are viable, it's really up to what you like more. The thing I like about Priest is that I could go Holy or disc to heal, but lock has a lot of raw damage and dps moves that heal itself... up to you

It seems to me that self healing is great on both classes. Both are through drains (cant use holy in shadow form). It comes down to other people in the long run I think. Will you sacrifice your dps to also be able to heal your team members? If I'm off base just tell me. :) It just seems like they are very similar its just where one succeeds the other falls short and visa versa.

Sorry if that isn't the most grammatically correct paragraph or if you had trouble understanding my gist. I'm very tired but still wanted to help out :P

They can be fun, it depends on who told you that. They look awesome in Shadowform, so looks on a Shadowpriest are a plus. Yes, Shadow Priests can deal great damage, but that's not the best part.

The thing that groups/raids see in Shadow Priests in the Mana regen they provide to their group members, and also the health regen. This means that a Shadow Priest is more essential to the group, in which most cases also means more wanted.

What do a Warlock and Shadow Priest have to offer?

Warlock- Soulstone, Healthstone, Damage, Banish, AoE (Seed of Corruption), AoE Health Buff, Curse of Recklessness, Curse of Weakness, Curse of Shadows, Curse of Elements, Seduce

Shadow Priest- AoE Mana regen, AoE Health regen, Power Word: Fortitude, Power Word: Shield, Damage, Shadow Vulnerability (+10% Shadow Dmg.), Misery (+5% Spell Dmg.), Shackle Undead, Mind Control, Fear Ward

That's about all that I can remember off of the top of my head right now, I'm sure there's more to it than that.

My advice: Just level Shadow Priest a bit and see how you like it, there's nothing to lose.

Have fun Smiley: smile

yep, one or two shadow priest can heal most of the weak aoe dmg ur raid group takes. and also if the healer is a paladin, he will NEVER run oom because of the constant heals

Shadow Priests are shadow boosters.

Affliction 'locks love shadow priests. Don't leave home without one.

Well strictly speaking a warlock will almost always do more raw damage then a shadow priest if they are equally geared, but the raid healing/mana regen is a godsend in its own right and a shadow priests damage is nothing to sneeze at either. Both classes compliment eachother perfectly, and both classes are required endgame material so you cant go wrong either way.

I have a 70 lock and just got my spriest to 55. They both do good damage, and are fun to play. I love the fact that I can heal/return mana to my party by dealing damage. How cool is that? Now with patch 2.3 healing is easy, you don't have to manually switch out of shadowform to do it; it happens automatically when you use a healing spell.

Shadow damage FTW (-:

if you already have a high level warlock i wouldnt suggest playing a shadow priest unless you want more of the same. trying discipline or holy would be a change of play style, but i cant think of any other 2 classes that are more similar then SP and lock. besides the obvious "shadow" damage, you basically dot, fear, and do ur stupid channel, fell melting whilst draining life. at least you wont have to sac your void to get a shield up. so if that is what you enjoy youll have plenty of it, but as someone who enjoys variety, i am bias and would say challenge yourself with a different combat style.

I found that after playing a lock for a couple years, my next toon had to be a melee class. I took a shammy for two reasons. One, he was easy to lvl and Two, I will be using him to heal when he hits 70 in a couple lvl's. Goin from a clothy to another clothy just wasn't something i wanted to do. A change was definitly needed. Now my lock is just there for PVP, mostly arenas and its a tone of fun.
