Just to make sureFollow

Ok, i have read sticky after sticky and i just want to be sure. Once i reach 495 defense, it would be more important to get stats with block rating on them? As in using gems for that purpose, or is dodge just as good.
So i can raise my avoidance rating.

And a pally will never have avoidance at 102.5 without HS up am i correct?

Also could someone explain to me what the difference is in block value of your shield and shield block rating?

Thanks

Mike

You need 490 def, not 495 but lemme go over it as best I can.

Block rating is the easiest way to get your avoidance up. You can often get a few % of it for one piece of gear.

Dodge and Parry, while it isn't as easy to get your avoidance percentage up, is much more preferred to block. This way you avoid all of the damage instead of just some of it.

You can mostly get dodge and block gear pre-raid. Parry gear will start cropping up eventually but it's a bit harder to get. Just try to get as much block as you can and if you can get a good chunk of dodge without upsetting your avoidance too much go for that.

And you can't reach 102.4 without HS up, just like warriors who can't get that without Shield Block up, it's just a lot easier for them.

Well ok then, i am at 490 defense got there today. So i have 2 slots that i need to upgrade so that will free of other spots for block rating, mostly in rings or trinkets from what i can see. Not including badge items. Which i hope to start heroics very soon.

And i ran Mech and Bot after raising up to 490, my avoidance is 88.4 wish HS up, i noticed i wasn't taking as much damage, inturn not being healed as much, which boils down to i need to control my mana a little better,

Oh the woes of being a pally tank. I LOVE IT.

Save the uber gear for the heroics, you can downgrade some of your gear for the normal instances, take harder hits, get healed more, etc... It makes things easier.

Didn't see this part get touched on. Block Rating is what translates into your actual chance to block an incoming attack. Block Value is what determines how much damage you absorb when you block an attack. So, Block Rating is what will help your avoidance and get you closer to becoming uncrushable, while Block Value is just a little cushion making you take slightly less damage.
