#1 Dec 29 2007 at 10:02 AM Rating: Sub-Default
Herro Der. I've recently made a paladin, got him to lvl 20. Hes currently spec'd protection and ive been wondering, what kind of gear do prot pallies use for pvp? Do they try and get the same as warriors, or do they go for some other weird stuff? If you could explain to me which stats to look for, it would be greaty appreciated.(think i spelt that wrong but w/e)

#3REDACTED, Posted: Dec 29 2007 at 10:11 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) no but seriously, wut kind of gear do prot pallies look for >_>
#4 Dec 29 2007 at 10:17 AM Rating: Good
for PvP? stuff with +healing on it. Prot pallies can't kill anyone, so they're useless as dps, they can't bash things out of heals, they literally do nothing but heal in PvP. If you're going to heal anyway, you might as well be holy. He wasn't kidding.

oh and don't worry, protection warriors are just as useless in pvp
#6REDACTED, Posted: Dec 29 2007 at 10:25 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) K so like, its basically just defense gear and strength and stam. I see now.

Teach me the ways of 1337 sir, I desire more prot Pally PvP, Subt Rogue PvE, Disc Priest PvE and neon colored cars with giant spoilers.

I need guidance, I am yours to mold Mr. Sticks.

I will agree there are PLENTY of Rogues, Warriors and Kitty Droods that will let you tank them to death. But that's 2 and 1/3 classes out of 9. While in some cases I would put on my prot gear because of a large amount of melee classes I more often than not was in healy gear.

Prot Pally vs any magic users = YOU LOSE.

Fight a holy priest, I dare you.

Sarcasm and hilarity aside, we aren't trying to be small minded here, we speak from experience.

A prot pally works off of "reactive damage". You may already know this, but I'll explain. When someone hits you with a melee attack, they automatically get hit with damage back. You won't see the majority of this dmg until you're level 40, but that's the way prot pallies work.

Now if you're in a big AV group and there are tons of people everywhere and a rogue starts bashing on you and they notice your health isn't moving and theirs is going down with each strike; a smart Rogue won't continue killing themselves on you. They go find a warlock to kill. Like I said previously, some people will let you "tank them" in PvP, but the smart ones won't.

Second, in every piece of Arena or HWL gear there is ZERO peices of gear for prot pallies as far as armor goes. Take a look at this:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/items/armorsets/

There is a set for Healing, Ret and Shockadin Pallies. Nothing for prot. Bear druids, prot pallies and prot warriors don't have much place in PvP.

Lastly, as a prot pally you're very vulnerable to magic. At 70, anyone who uses spells(unless they're completely horrible at PvP) will be able to beat you. When hit with melee, we do tons of dmg back, but when hit with spells we do ZERO dmg back. We lack movement, stuns, interrupts, silences, active dmg or anything that lets you pwn a caster. Killing a caster in a 1v1 fight is an uphill battle that ends with their wand up your pootooty.

We don't say this to discourage you(not that much anywayz), and we don't say this because we don't know any better. We say this because we know, and have been through the hoops.

Sneaky, you're starting to get really cocky and immature for no good reason. Stop bumping your own posts, it's not funny and people like me don't and won't ever appreciate it, if we read your posts and don't reply, there's a reason for it.
#17REDACTED, Posted: Dec 29 2007 at 2:09 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) wth, im just saying ty, I can't even be nice to ppl who give me good info?

People don't like being badmouthed. Grow up and learn something called sarcasm.

I'm talking about in general. Your other post with the title "Awesome PvP Story", you keep bumping it, even with posts just saying "bump". Just because you have reached the 'Scholar' karma status doesn't mean you run the boards.

Here's another example:

You posted twice back to back, which means you are intentionally bumping your own thread. Once again, an annoying thing to do.

I should grow up? You're telling me to grow up meanwhile Sneaky is going around acting immature and bumping his own posts? Are you really going to try defending this guy?

I don't know how people on the forums know who comments are directed to, so I'll clearify myself:

this isn't directed to you, I don't know what else to say. I thought it was pretty clear that I was talking to Sneaky. Anyway, sorry I offended you and I'd rate myself down if I could.
#22REDACTED, Posted: Dec 29 2007 at 2:24 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) As for the awesome pvp story bumping. Ya, those were intentional, and after somebody made me realize how stupid it was i stopped, i would have apologized, but that would only bump it again, making more people angry.

Listen, the post Jack made was the BEST, most SIMPLE, and easy to understand answer to your question. If your response was "hey, why do you say that" then sure we would have been happy to explain ourselves. You didn't. You tried to make a joke out of it, when we were actually being 100% serious. Don't assume that because we spend a lot of time discussing PvE that we are clueless about PvP. We understand the PvP aspects of paladins all-too-well, and understand that outside of healing, our role in PvP (especially arena which is the main form of PvP for The Burning Crusade) is little more than a joke. We've discussed this over and over and over and over and over and over again and because we have said it a zillion times, we cut our responses down to 1-sentence simple statements. If you don't like what we have to say, then leave the forums and crawl back under the rock you came from.

Prot pallies have no place in PVP, unless they are in AV then I love them. But really even I have tanked Galv in my healing set.

I did run into a PvP Prot Pally in Arena though. I let him hit me for 2 minutes and cast one Holy Light on myself and was topped back off. He gave up.

How about PvE. In PvE, what stats would a prot pally be looking for?

All you really need is a shield spike (on a shield of course). Everything else is Sta, Str, Agi, and Int <constantly switching seals is a bit annoying>. But honestly, I didn't find the stats to be all that important as a prot in Azeroth.
