since I am only level 10, but working retail makes it almost impossible for me to ever think about doing raids since my schedule changes every week. Is it possible to solo all the way to level 70? Can a Paladin do that? I am going to use a talent a build I found that is suppose to be good for soloing a Paladin. What will I miss out on as far as loot if I do not raid? Are there instances that can be soloed or no?

Solo to 70 with the changes to XP? Easy as pie. If you arena heavily you can get gear as good as stuff you get raiding. As far as instances that can be solo, you can probably solo instances much lower with minimal rewards but I doubt you could solo any level 70 instances.

Yes, you can solo all the way up to 70 without even touching instances. This goes for all classes, not just paladins. Also, all builds work, (can't really say too much for holy, I've heard of 0/0/0 guys though) but Ret and Prot averages to about the same leveling speed (In some situations one may excel over the other).

Just wanted to confirm the above posters. Part of Blizzard's take on "balancing" classes is every class/spec has to be able to hit top level solo. As for instances, the only ones you'll solo are once that you are too high level for. At level 70, as a Paladin, you could probably solo instances up to the level range of 50-55 (through Sunken Temple, maybe Blackrock Depths, if you know anything about those or want to look them up).

It's not hard to get an instance group going if you ever find an hour or two free. Raids are hard to organise, but instance runs are basically a matter of logging in during rush hour and hitting up the LFG channel. As long as it isn't anything ridiculously long like a full Scarlet Monastery run or Maraudon.

But, yes. You should easily be able to quest to at least 58, and once you're there Outlands has more content than any player would ever need.

First off, the only raids anyone really does anymore (unless it's a PvP raid on an opposing faction city) are at level 70.

Instances are not raids, and you don't need a set schedule for instances really. Yes you CAN get to 70 without setting foot in an instance, but if you want to run some, just join looking for group and get into a run when your schedule permits.

The benefits? You'll get tons of stories about complete idiots and some gear improvements. You'll also occasionally have some really, really fun runs and met people that you can add to friends and run other instances with.

I may be biased because I love instance runs, but if you can I'd at least give a few a shot on your way if you can. If not before 58 then definitely in Outland. The nice thing is the Outland instances are pretty short and sweet until you get to the lvl 70 ones so you can conceivably knock one out in an hour or less.
