One of the main things is to hold off healing for as long as possible to give the tank maximum time to get agro on all mobs. If you heal straight away, then it will be so much harder for they tank to do their job.

This isn't always going to work as there is a lot of bad tanks out there. We had to explain to a level 70 warrior that he had to use Shield Slam, Sunderx5 then Devestate to generate max threat on a single target. Until then, we were pulling agro all over the place. After he started doing that, things ran much more smoothly. I was impressed with him though as he actually took our advice on board and was willing to listen - that is the sign of a good player - be willing to learn.

Bzzzzzzzt. Incorrect. You do not need to "sunderx5 then devastate" as devastate applies the sunder debuff now. So all you need is to spam devastate. Also, revenge is best, so a good warrior tanking rotation is shield slam -> shield block -> revenge -> devastate while mixing in shield slams, revenges, and shield blocks when their respective cooldowns are up.

Before the sunder / devastate change, there were many times where I didn't really have time to apply sunders, and I never had threat generation problems. For instance, on a multimob pull, I will largely replace sunder / devastate with thunder clap, as shield slam and revenge both give higher threat values than sunder / devastate.

Warne,

I'm sorry you've had bad experiences with warriors and druids, but to say that the classes make crappy tanks is unfair. You were simply grouped with crappy players. I've had just as many bad pally tanks. Who cares if you can maintain a high amount of threat on 5 mobs at the same time, if you can't take the beating that those mobs are going to put on you. The fact is that decent players from all 3 classes should make fine tanks.

Regarding the healing aggro, the issue is as follows: Overhealing generates NO threat. So as long as the tank is topped off before the pull starts, putting HoTs on the tank or dropping a 10k heal on him will not result in any mobs running over to the healer. They will however, if your heals actually HEAL him before he's generated enough threat to compensate for the heal. Just wait until they've gotten some decent threat before you drop your heals. Make sure the warrior gets his TC down, and make sure the druid gets a few swipes in. Any tank worth anything can take a few hits without going down, so give him some time to generate some threat. Both of those classes have abilities that allow them to easily hold off the healing aggro.

There you go. Shows my incomplete warrior knowledge :) Guess i'd better hurry up and level my warrior (lvl 16) :)

Thanks for the correction. One day I will know all classes as well as I know druids :)
