OK i know this topic has been beat to death but I haven't found the answer I'm looking for through searching so I thought I'd ask.

I'm a fire mage about to hit 70. Should I use my honor and buy the s1 staff? i've heard its the best staff you can get until TK? Or should I use my honor for a few pieces of s1 gear and use a 1h and off hand or a staff like the one from H Mech?
Been really confused about this lol. any advice would be awesome thanks.

are you going to PvP more of PvE more?

If PvP then get the S1 staff and start working on your glad set. If PvE save honor and start running stuff. As a mage you should be a tailor so you can get spellfire/frozen shadoweave and battlecast/spellstrke sets. As for PvE weps get the offhand from BM and the rep blade from CoT.

All in all, whatever can get you the most +spell damage.

The season 1 staff is well worth the honor, though. Short of the other arena staffs, you won't get an upgrade until you clear TK and get Kael'Thas' staff.

A quick question if I may...

Yes, the S1 staff is really nice. However, I was under the assumption that the S1 dagger + offhand were indeed a lot better. Yes, I'm aware that there's quite a difference costwize, but still.

Is it not worth it to go dagger + offhand as compared to the staff, even if there's the higher cost?

I'm taking the S1 staff, because of the boatload of spell crit. I know resilience hurts crit and all that, but crits still an important stat imo. The dagger + OH have more stam and spell damage, but I just prefer the stats on the staff. I'll be using the S1 staff until I get points + rating for the S3 staff.

I always buy the vindicators silk over dreadweave whenever possible, my ideal PVP stats (pre-S3 gear) would be 20% crit, 900 spell damage, 10.3k health and 375 resilience.

The S1 Wep + OH is worse than the Staff. You will get +dmg and Sta, but all the other stats are going down. The S1 Wep doesn´t have +hit (S2 and 3 does)...the difference between S2/3 MH + OH and S2/3 Staff is much close than the S1 Staff and MH + OH. The S1 Wep is not worth compared to the S1 Staff, however, the S2/3 MH + OH x S2/3 Staff is debeatable.

Yeah, I think crit is a very important stat too. Resilience will decrease its power, but if you don´t have it...you just won´t crit. Even with Resilience, the dmg done is still good.

thanks for all the replys, So i'm gathering MH/OH is better for PvE and staff is better for PvP. I am a tailor (currently at 350), and i do PvP alot but i'm also still big into running stuff and raiding. What would benefit me most when I hit 70? having the s1 staff? or getting some s1 gear to boost my stats for pvp and raiding, until i can complete my spellfire stuff. reason i ask is because i know theres a decent staff in H Mech I could use as far as staffs go but what do most raiding mages use? MH/OH i'm assuming? Sorry for all the repetition just trying to clear this up im so bad on making decisions when it comes to spending honor and arena points lol

You can generally get more spelldmg out of a MH/OH combo, although you may get less stats like stam/int. Most raiding mages (or casters for that matter) go for MH/OH. But get whatever you can and put a good +40 spelldmg on it.

There is no staff in Heroic Mech. In regular and heroic Mech there's a half decent sword, though I'd prefer the one from Shadow Lab for the hit rating. There's a fairly nice staff in Heroic Sethekk Halls, however.

Greatsword of Horrid Dreams?

I have one. A guildie gave me +40 spell damage on it and it's awesome.
