#1 Dec 28 2007 at 11:48 AM Rating: Decent
hi
i have a lvl70 hunter and a lvl62 shammy. i wanna make one of em a pvper, but i keep hearing how much they both suck in the arena. i dont wanna lvl another char to 70 and i like em both the same... dunno which one to chose£.

P.S: the hunter is BM or MM (dont rlly care) and the shammy is prefered ench (gotta luv running around and spamming frost shock)

I would choose hunter, mainly due to shammy kinda sucks in pvp right now from what I have seen.

Shammys suck in arena?! Slap whoever told you that. Resto shammys are one of the best healers in 3v3 and 5v5. In 2v2 they are also amazing but IMO priests, druids, and pallys are more mana efficient and have better abilities for 2v2 and have better combinations with other classes since 2v2 is uneven in the class combinations compared to 3v3 and 5v5.

Elemental and restoration shammies are really good in arena, mostly in 5v5 though.
In lower brackets, shammies just get cc'd too easily, so if you arena on a shaman you'll probably be doing mostly 5v5.
As far as I know there's no real decent setup for an elemental shaman in 2v2, and there are only a few for 3v3.
Resto's a different story though, with a warrior or rogue pumped up on windfury, there's a lot of damage flying around, with room to heal.

I've always seen hunters as soloers, in my opinion, this persists through arena play, as they have no real synergy with other classes, besides the mana drain part. Hunters only work in setups that allow them to stay away and mana burn people, in my opinion at least. Most good hunter setups are 5v5 setups. In 2v2 and 3v3 I've generally ignored them after BW was done.

I'd roll resto shaman, simply because they can hold their own in every bracket without having to rely on cooldowns too much.

If you insist on playing enhancement, play the hunter, enhancement is the second worst talent tree for arena play imo.

Hunter are far better at PvP than the Shaman right now.

Enhancement is not a viable PvP spec right now as windfury has been nerfed so many times that the stormstrike crit build has not worked since patch 1.10.

Elemental could be decent for PvP, however after your intitial CL, LB, you're in trouble, especially with a shaman's low mana pool and high spell cost.

Go with a hunter, you can run around and spam CC, Multi and arcane shot if you're just looking for HK in a BG.

Taurrus, what's your rating? Not that mine is that great, but I've seen some good shammies, and shammies are ok, as long as you play resto (or ele in 5v5).

He asked about arena, stating something "could be good" isn't exactly the type of first hand experience he's looking for. Battlegrounds don't count for arena pvp either.

I stick by my previous post.

It's sad, but enhancement really doesn't has a good place in arena.
A enchance shaman is a good addition to a raid, but they really aren't anything special in arena. yet.

Resto pwns, and elemental can be quite good.
Emphasize 'can be'.
Can hit like a truck, but is also easily focused fired.(just like enhancement for that matter.)

I wouldnt say Enhancement shamans are all that great for raids either, nor elemental shamans...

Resto shamans are pretty damn good though, in both PvE and PvP.

Shaman is still in flux. Blizz has messed with them since they were waaay OP a while back and they haven't settled down yet. Resto may be the powerhouse today but next patch or update? Could get nerfed to heck.

Hunter is finally starting to settle down a bit. Once the multi-trap hue and cry died down, I'm not seeing as much whining from the hunter community, though there's still a bit of shock from other classes over the loss of the deadzone.

So, since a character at 70 is a committment, I'd probably stick with the class that has a longer dual-faction history and greater versatility. Shaman is cool but I have far more fun with the Hunter...

Resto Shamans are currently very nice in arena's due to chain heal and earth shield. However Earth shield is being nerfed to near uselessness next patch (30 sec CD, can be dispelled). Ele shamans can hit like a truck, but they are very prone to interruption. My 5v5 has a ele/resto specced shaman, and he does a very good job. I would guess that they would be weaker in 3v3's and 2v2's though. I've never pvp'd with a enh. shaman.

Both are good at different things, but as i've seen, both are kind of forced into a build for Arena. Hunter = BM, and Shammy = Resto, simply because of necessity for CC and Survivability.

I have an Enhcancement Shammy in my Raid group and he pwns in figths where he can stay in melee range the whole fight, coming in top 3-6 depending on the fight and certain other situations that may require him to do something other than DPS.

Hunters can do well in any spec, it just depends on what you want your job/ role to be iin the group, but they don't do much in 2v2, but 3v3 and 5v5 have great uses for them.

Do what you want, but if you insist on going Enhancement with your Shammy make your Hunter the PvP character.

BM hunters are great, but once the TBW wears off you're missing a lot of utility. With a good group silence shot and scatter shot are very very powerful. I'm currently BM but am considering going for MM due to those shots.

If you really want to do arena go with BM..the only specced that can do all arenas..2v2,3v3,5v5..if you want to do only 5v5 all speced and both class, hunters and shamans are equal...
