I have a serious case of altitis. I went to the (witch) doctor for it but all he did was turn me into a frog and shoot me up in the air.

So anyway, with my chronic altitis I am always levelling up new chars.

My newest adventure is with a Blood Elvan huntress.

Got her up to level 21 using a lynx I tamed over in the BE starting area.

After finishing all the quests in the Ghostlands I went over to the Barrens to pick up some easy green quests and remembered about Echeyakee. I decided I wanted to tame him.

After a few attempts bothced by some idiotic warrior who thought he was helping me by attacking my precious white lion, I finally managed to tame the cat and promptly renamed it Shadow (I know, very cliche, but he's my cat I'll name him what I want).

Now here's where the confusion comes in. At level 21 my lynx had all kinds of training done from Bite 3, to Natural Armor, to Great Stamina.

When I trained Echeyakee I was able to teach him the highest rank of Growl he could learn (since it doesn't cost training points), but he had a grand total of 0 training points for other skills.

I thought all pets of a certain level have the same amount of training points?

Do I have to get him a level before he will have any training points?

Also when I get Echeyakee to level 21 will he have the same number of training points my lynx had at that level?

First, to answer your question. Yes all pets have the same amount of training points, BUT- you have to gain loyalty with them to gain access to any of these points.

If I remember it right its 1 point per lvl per loyalty.

So when your lvl 21 lion gets to unruely you will have 21 points. If you get to rank 3 loyalty you will have 42 points. So on so forth.

If your pet levels to 22 and you have rank 3 loyalty you will have 66 points to play with.

please next time look at the sticky though. Its full of all this information. The people of this forum real hard to update the information put in that info.

Your total pet training points = (loyaltly level-1)*pet level

So if your pets loyalty level is only 1(which it is since you just trained it) that's 0*your pet level. Since 0 multiplied by anything is 0, that's why you have 0 raining points.

I read throught the stickie and didn't notice it.

I was also in the process of looking for the info on Petopia.

Thanks for the answers, though. I can usually find the answer to whatever questions I have before I have to ask it, but this time I must have just skimmed over that section of the stickie (or read the wrong stickie).

Eh, I won't have Eche very long. As soon as my hunter dings 23 (just hit 22 this morning before work) I'm gonna go camp Humar's spawn and tame him.

The white cat is cool looking, but the all black lion is just too sweet to pass up.

I will do the same, but I'm only lvl 19 and I'm sick of my scorpid.
If I'm lucky, I might hit 23 tonight and hopefully tame him... anyway, happy hunting. =)

Here's some math on gaining pet loyalty.

Found it quite useful as I'm currently trying to level up the loyalty of a new pet, which is a pain in the *** at level 70. Anyway, the info is delivered by Mania, the editor of Petopia (not the owner, though, that's still Bamoo, iirc). Bit of a nutter when it comes to pets in the game.

Does anybody who's tamed him have any tips?

Be prepared to wait for a while, took me 2 days to get him. And second, make sure you clear the adds around him and be at full health, and have an ice trap ready. He hits pretty hard and the adds will agro you if you try and pull just him.

He's a bit of a challange but so worth it, i just wish i tamed him on my 70, i hate leveling pets all the way up. =[

I'd rather use those 10 humar-camping hours into grinding to level 27 and getting naraxis/blind hunter.

Way cooler, and cats are overused(?).

Here's a tip that not many people seem to know when looking through the stickey:

There is a table of contents that's well-organized, and hard to miss. If you read through it, and find your question, copy the question, hit CTRL + F to bring up the search bar for the page. paste it in, and hit next. If it doesn't come up with any results, go to the next page in the thread and trying again.

Here's what I got in less than a minute doing that:

Quote:

How do I teach pets abilities?
What are training points? Are they reuseable?
Will a pet leveled from 10 to 70 have more or less training points than one tamed at 70?

To teach pets abilities, first you must know the ability yourself. You learn these skills from a pet trainer or from watching other pets you have had use them. Use Good Intentions' page to find out which pets automatically know skills when you tame them, so that you can learn from them.

Once you know a skill, you can teach it to any pet with the "Beast Training" ability in the general tab of your spellbook. Each ability will have a cost in points associated with it if your pet can learn it. If your pet can not, it might be a skill that type of pet can't learn, or he just might not be high enough in level. Make sure the first ability you train on a pet is the highest growl they can learn.

Pets gain training points every time they level or increase in loyalty. Overall this works out to the same amount in the end no matter how it happens. (The exact formula is level * loyalty-1.) Training points are now reclaimable like talent points, by visiting a pet trainer and having them reset the training points, so there is no difference in the number of training points you get, or whether you take a level 10 cat to 70 instead of getting one at 70.

That stickey is indexed so well, that I can't believe that ANYONE could miss their question.

I will tame one of those Blue/White Dread Swoop/Flyer in Desolace, from what I have seen, not many uses them and I think they look cool. =P

Ha, I have to comment on that. I'm glad that you like the index :-)

Actually I wanted to directly link to every question from that index but thats not possible (at least not without breaking this thing into a ******** of posts since I found no way to link into a certain post, I only managed to link to the start of a post).
Thus I only linked to the different sections within the sticky. From there you can easily find the questions (and the CTRL-C / CTRL-F method is quite good for that job).
