Hey there.

I'm a lvl 70 Enh Shaman, and love my class blahblah...

But I want more groups, and I want more viability...plus I wanna try to heal.

I was checking out around the forums but the build thread and such are all out-dated by quite a few patches.

So I was wondering if anyone could post a few things about Resto Shamans.

Such as what I'll be needing gear wise. Of course MP/5, but what else?
What gems should I be looking for?

Also looking for a good talent build...and thing like...Staff, or DW w/ healer weapons and chants?

I'm a total noob to the healing scene, other than lvl 7 Priest healing. :P

0/5/56 the most common resto build is pretty straightforward. As for weapons, healers can't dual wield, and you won't want to use a staff because you'll need a shield for surviability. Look for a crystal pulse shield and whatever the mace is with the 11 mp5 and 227 heal- grab those for a decent AH start. Some good heal mods can help a lot too.

Look around and PUG Kara up to Curator a few times, you'll get a pile of decent +healing gear fast - wrist, gloves, shoulders, chest, pants, etc. And, don't limit yourself to 'mail only' it's nice but not absolutely necessary. In the meantime run heroics and collect badges for the +healing gear available. Several heroics have nice rare healing gear that drops, but I've been focusing on heroic SP and heroic UB for the boots and headpiece since Kara doesn't offer those as freely. :P

I just had the crystal pulse shield drop from a flower in Netherstorm by the Stormspire. Finally a drop I can use! Rarely happens. Usually for another class. I was using a really outdated shield from Hellfire P. that had spell damage and mp5 before.

Right now I have 5 points in elemental, but mainly to help out solo questing. I'll eventually respec and put those last 5 points in resto. Probably to reduce totem cost. And of course 5 points in enhance to increase int.

My main thing is finding enough healing and mp5 gear for Kara. I think I can get another 150 healing with enchants maybe? That's what a guildie was saying. I'm not that familiar with high level enchanting. I never enchant until I need to. Once I get set on some equipment to fun Kara, I will enchant it.

Been using armory, not sure how useful that is. Some items I can find good healing, but lose out on mp5. Mp5 seems to be the hardest to get. I can't see how I can get 150 mp5 for Kara. And I'm struggling to break 800 healing, one guy is saying I need 1500 healing. I just can't see how to do it.

I'm not sure about not going mail. I like the looks of it. :). Should I go cloth maybe for shoulders or something?

-> Check out this post<-

It provides links to most if not all of the gear you'll want before you start raiding, where to get it and a link to the item itself.

As far as karazhan goes, you'll not need more than about 100 mp/5 to do well. I can easily go through kara in 119 mp/5. Fully buffed you'll have about 200 mp/5 and i think that's what your guild means. Also having right around 1000-1200 healing is fine for karazhan, you'll get huge upgrades in there and will all the pieces available you should easily jump to 1600+ by the time you're done.

Enchanting, you can get some relatively cheap but very very good enchants including: 3 mp/5 armor kits, 6 mp/5 to chest, 6mp/5 to wrists and Vitality (4mp/5 4hp/5) to boots.

Another thing to remember is that your Intellect stat also increases your +healing via resto talents, so sometimes alot of intellect and a little +healing can be better than a lot of +healing with little Intellect.

Personally I prefer gemming my gear with Royal Nightseye (9 +healing/ 2mp5) or Dazzling Talasite (4 INT / 2mp5).

That's good to hear about mp5. I'm having a hard time getting enough. I always heard you needed 150. The 2nd priest says he has 150 and over 1300 healing. So I always felt I was way behind.

I have the one trinket from netherstorm that gives mp5, but I lose some healing with that. with that I can get about 900 healing and 104 mp5. I still haven't done enchants, and that should get me over 1000 healing.

My guild really needs me. They want 3 healers for Kara. I assume 3 healers is the norm? I will be the 3rd healer.

I didn't have nearly as much time as I hoped running instances and getting rep. I'd like to get exalted scyers for the shoulder enchant. But I'll just have to get the honored one for now.

Cen Exp has a healing cloak for revered I'm working on. I think I can get that one in time if I can find groups for steam vaults. Does Underbog give any rep if I'm honored?

And I'd love to get exalted shat ar (or whatever they are called) for that healing mace. But I'm a ways off that.

Anyways ran Bot, Arc, OHB, and BM to finish up key frags. Bot was just a regular run, no key frag in there. They are trying to get me and one other guy keyed. I just hope they know my gear isn't as good as I'd like it. We are only going for 1st boss for now. Our guild is just starting kara runs.

any thoughts on spirit? I've been ignoring it for the most part. At one point it was unmodified. But with my healing gear on, there are some spirit modifiers. I've neglected it for the most part in an effort to get the most +healing and mp5.

Don't go for spirit, as of now, its pretty much worthless to shamans.

There is a quest to run Shattered Halls and the quest reward is a very nice cloak, I used that one until I got the one from heroic badges. Also, go for the pvp healing rings/neck if you don't have better already, they're actually very good and honor is easy enough to get.

Link us your armory and we can make specific suggestions on what to get first to help you out the most.

That's my armory. Says my character hasn't been active. Armory is annoying sometimes. And some of the upgrades didn't show up on armory. Like one drop I found in Black Morass. It was a nice wrist piece from the last boss.

I left my character in my healing set so it could be viewed. But I guess if you are logged out too long it says you aren't active? Normally I'm in my pve solo gear.

Tried getting steam vaults ran last night. I think with the new years coming up it's too hard finding a group. Only instances I have ran have been with guildies except for one failed Botanica Pug run (and that had one of my guildies in it). I'm having trouble finding groups for instances.

But I forgot about that shat halls quest reward. That may be better than the cenarion exp reverered cloak. Where does the quest line start for shat halls? You need a key right? and down a Fel reaver?

edit: I'm logging on right now to pick up the quest in Thrallmar. I was going to do it last night while looking for herbs, but forgot.

Party I was in couldn't down the final Shat Halls boss. That's a hell of a fight. I don't understand what you are supposed to do with that many adds. My healing seems good. I have no problem keeping the tank up. The tank was well geared and had over 12000 hp's.

Anyways ran Kara and downed the first boss. He was pretty easy compared to Moroes. We couldn't beat that guy tonight. At this point I can't even see how to beat him. Our top priest has amazing gear he's always bragging about his 1500 healing and I think he has over 150 mp5. He never ran out of mana during the 1st boss. Second priest isn't as well geared, but she's okay.

I'm at around 1100 healing and 115 mp5 right now. I definately need more mp5. I burn through mana quickly. And my max mana is pretty low compared to the priests.

Problem with the Moroes fight is I don't have a good job. I feel kind of useless. But I'm sure they can't do it with 2 healers, they'd run out of mana. Problem with 3 healers is healing over each other. Not sure how to avoid that. I think our off tank is just too poorly geared. He has too many greens. I blow all my mana trying to keep him up after the priest dies from the shackles. We shackle both mobs on the right, but just doesn't work out well. I'm not sure what I can do to be more productive. Usually I get the damn garrotte put on me.

I don't know about resto shaman anymore. Seems like the priests greater heal can outheal our healing wave by alot. And in raids they hit so hard.

And I feel like a complete failure as a healer tonight. We could not get past the 1st boss in normal mech. And just barely got by the mini bosses (I went oom right at the end). The warrior was duel wielding nice pretty swords. He wasn't using a shield, which may have been a problem. We also had a resto druid in our party and he tried tanking in bear form, but I couldn't keep him alive. Right now I'm at 1100 healing and 112 mp5. And that's not nearly good enough. But if I can't heal mech (One of the bosses supposedly has good pants drop), I don't know what I'll do.

Your tank was the duel wielding warrior? The fault wasn't you then. A bad shield adds 3k armor and a good quest reward shield at 70 adds 3600 (Netherwing). For a warrior starting to tank level 70 instances that will be about a third of his total armor, not to mention shield slam for threat generation.

I have 1300 healing and over 140 mp/5 and I've failed to heal bad tanks in Mech. If you get a group of people that just can't hack it then your healing doesn't matter at all. You can keep them up a while but eventually you will crumble.

This is assuming you pulled the boss away from the bombs. The boss also has a damage shield (one magic and one physical) that does a ton of damage if people do not pay attention.

I would also guess that a resto druid wasn't putting out much damage while the warrior "tanked" and was about as effective at tanking as you were at being DPS. There really is no need for 2 healers to be in the same party in a 5 man instance.

Sounds like you just had a bad party.

ya it's just getting hard to find groups. Usually in guild runs, I do dps, even as resto. We still had no problems with Black Morass. Even with my gimped dps. It's so much nicer doing guild runs. But I can't get the healer spot in guild runs usually.

Kara went badly tonight. We just can't manage the adds on Moroes. I hear it's nice to have 2 shadow priests on that fight. tongight we had 2 resto shaman and a holy priest. Our tank is well geared. But us healers are still pulling aggro on Moroes. And the rogues were tanking the adds. but the adds hit like a truck as well. It's tough keeping them up. Things actually went better tuesday night. We had more casters and not 3 rogues like we had this time.

It's not you.

Those were two seperate parties actually. One was a pug group on a 70 instance. Next time I'll pay more attention to the tank. If he's not using a shield, I'll drop. The second was a guild run through Moroes. We finally downed Moroes last night. It helped we got a hunter to trap any shackles that resist or break early. Which was a problem initially. We also got a rogue to respec, as his spec was messed up (pvp spec).

Now We're on Maiden. Speaking of maiden...

Does anyone know if Chain heal works on the members of the other party in the raid group? Tried putting rogues in my party so I could chain heal them, but then the other priest gets torched by holy fire as my grounding totem doesn't affect members of the other party :(. I really wish it did. So I was thinking most ranged should go in my party, and I'll continue to chain heal the rogues in the other party, assuming it will bounce. They didn't do that great a job keeping her in the middle. And a few times they were out of range of my chain heals, or not in LOS.

Also did some BG's with my resto shammy in full healing gear LOL. I was surprised I could beat a few guys one on one. I didn't think I could kill anything as a resto shammy. Beat a mage, as I slowly wore him down to where he was out of mana and using a wand on me LOL. I do okay against hunters as well. Rogues tear me to pieces though. Mostly I try to stay in groups, heal people, lay useful totems, and use my shocks.

Resto Shaman is no miracle worker. We are efficient healers that can be beat on briefly (thank god since we don't have any cc), but if your party isn't specced right or isn't geared right, no amount of work on your end can compensate.

An Arms/Fury specced Warrior should go respec. I understand that leveling/questing is harder, but honestly... at 70 if you plan on doing instances, you are expected to tank. Questing/Leveling may be slower, but you can still do it as prot. Tanking as Arms/Fury is hard 60+ and impossible at 70. I want to scream everytime a warrrior is specced arms/fury and then if we try for them to tank, they don't own a shield. >.<

Originally, I was aiming for a 0/20/41 spec on my shaman. At 64'ish I had some points into flury and was actually asked to dps since they had a healer. I had saved all my gear from questing that had AGI/STR, crit, AP, etc. and I did surprisingly well. I pulled hate a LOT more than I expected.

I realized my healing was kinda lacking, so I respecced since I had started doing more instances and figured I wouldn't be asked to ghetto-dps. lol Went to 0/3/58 and never looked back. Chain heal and Ancestral healing is wow... a tank with +25% armor even for a relatively short time is great. You really notice the damage reduction on anyone who gets a crit heal.

I'm sitting at 1230 healing and 132 mp5 right now. I'm starting to get happy with my equipment.

Finally my guildies did Shattered Halls with me and I got that cloak. I lose some stamina and spirit, but gain mp5, healing, and int with that cloak.

And warriors should go Protection. They aren't so bad.

We were messing around last night, and our tank said he wanted to solo a 70 elite in Shatterred halls. So we let him do it. I forgot I did have my earth shield on him, but that's only like 2700 healing to him. So I think he could have solod it without the shield on him. He still had over 3/4 health. He's geared for Kara though, made SH a breeze. But his equipment isn't that great. He still hasn't had a Kara drop. We've been unlucky and had pally, cloth, and mail (for me- yay) drops. I got the gloves and belt from Maiden and Moroes.
