I'm thinking of rolling a Priest (Alliance), and was wondering, on everyone's personal opinion, what would the best Race be for a Priest?

I am going to be Holy Spec, and already have some decent gear ready to be sent upon creation.

Honestly, play what you think looks good. No racial is better than you being unhappy with your character after 70 levels

As for the question, personally, I rolled a Draenei but I'd say dwarves would be right up there aswell. However I don't care for the dwarf look so I chose the former :p

Race matters such a minuscule amount, that you should play what you want. It matters even less now that every race has fear ward. Just pick the race you think looks best, or take a loot at the racials. It really, REALLY does not matter at all.

And don't even think of taking starting stats into account...

Every race is perfectly playable for priests.

However, alliance side, I would be tempted to go Draenei because I like their starting area so much better than the others. The quest chains are more fleshed out and enjoyable.

If you plan on doing heavy PVP, be aware that the Dwarf racial abilities and spells are extremely good for PVP. Stoneform helps immensely against rogues, hunters and druids, Chastise is golden vs. other casters, and Desperate Prayer is superb. Also, if you play a female Dwarf, you will stand out in any crowd.

Night Elf Shadowmeld is great tactically in PVP, and Starshards has become quite useful in recent patches. However, you will be a night elf.

Humans' spirit bonus makes them quite strong in late-game PVE, and their reputation racial makes grinds somewhat less excruciating. They also get Desperate Prayer, and if you want to Mana Burn yourself, you get Feedback.

Finally, returning to Draenei, their hit aura, Gift of the Naaru, Chastise and Symbol of Hope are all solid advantages. Have fun with whatever you pick!

Thanks everyone for the input!

I've decided to go with a Female Draenei. My choice for this was based on the beginning quests and area, as well as the GoN. I figure, that as a Priest, the Natural healing ability of the Draenei will definitely help, especially in a tight spot. (low health while soloing at lower levels, GoN and then Lesser Heal).

Gilneas (US) is a PvE Server, and If I play my cards right (leveling up correctly, getting my build and enhancements just right, as well as First Aid and Alchemy) I can become a pretty decent healer for any group.

Once again, thank you all for helping.

Ever since they nerfed fear ward the race of a priest is far less important. Your choice of race will work just fine.

I'm guessing since you went alch you also got herbalism, atleast i would hope but you never know.

Good luck with your priest :) Wondering what spec will you level as?

I liked the totem quest too what with the wings and the swim speed and the shapeshift. (Thogh it cracked me up how many people just grabbed the quest and didn't wait to get those things - didn't even know you got those things)

For Leveling, I am considering Shadow spec. And then, I will re-spec at 70, to Holy, get in a Nice Raid Guild, and play it by ear. Though I may switch from Shadow to a Hybrid if The need arises while leveling.

Also, I did take Herabalism with Alchemy, I'm new to WoW, but not that new, /lol

I'd vote for Night Elves.
