Fine Tuning my new 70Follow

#1 Dec 26 2007 at 5:38 PM Rating: Decent
So my mage is finally 70. I have all blues right now, except wrists and one trinket, with the frozen shadoweave set and crown of the sea witch as my head. I am of course, planning on getting the pvp wrist and belt, then grind for s1/s2 gear through BGs and Arenas. My first question is how to gem for starting PvP. I have a total of 3 Yellow, 1 Red and 5 Blue sockets. Should I try to match with sta and spell dmg gems, or just go straight stam or dmg gems? Also, on a side note, should I grind for the girdle of ruination as my belt and the battlecast set, or just get the pvp/s1 ones. Thanks, any input is appreciated.

As for which gear to get, get whichever is easier for you. Battlecast is good pvp gear, so that shouldn't be too big of a problem, you could get the rest with S1 if you wanted to.

As for the gemming question I believe most people will use purple gems to get +stam/+dmg or just +stam.

For the yellow slots I'd consider the orange gem "Potent Flame Spessarite". It's 3+ Spell Crit Rating and 4+ Spell Damage. I don't know of a stamina gem that fits in the yellow socket except for the blue item green gem "Steady Talasite" which boasts +4 Res and +6 Sta. The blue item gems go for well over 40g a piece on my server though so I stick to the cheapies for now :(

Well my alt is 370 JC and has the Steady talasite and the Mystic Dawnstone (8 res. ) So those are an easy pickup for me. Also, I am under the impression that I will be keeping my Frozen Shadoweave Set untill past t4, so would it not be o.k to spend a little gold on the gems for it?

It is tough to make a decision about the FSW set if you plan on PvPing. It gives a bit of stam and is a pretty good starter set. also, for pvp, I think most people avoid using +crit gems because of the resilience factor, so it is probably better to just do +dmg or +stam or +resilience when you start getting better pvp-minded gear.
