My New Fave Addon: RogueFocusFollow

I don't have any delusions that I'm the first to discover this little gem, but since I only recently saw and took a recommendation to check it out, I wanted to give it a little airtime.

It displays your energy, combopoints, and energy ticks into a compact little interface that you can put anywhere on your screen. I've nested mine just above my attacks.

The obvious and expected benefit is that during combat you can see exactly when your energy will tick so you can unload that mangle or shred at the optimal moment. One thing I didn't expect is that you can see your ticks even when you're at 100/100 energy...so when sneaking up on an unsuspecting victim you can land your opening move just before your energy ticks by 20, which effectively reduces the energy cost of your opening move by 20.

I now get why sometimes it seems easier than other times to land the Pounce/FF/Mangle/Shred/Shred combo opener. If you have plenty of time, you got lucky and pounced just before a tick, but if the timing is tight you got unlucky and Pounced just after a tick.

So for this feral druid, RogueFocus gets two snaps in a z formation.

Been looking for an "energy ticker," the rest is covered by the UI compilation I'm using. It helps a great deal knowing when to deliver the blow.

Cool, glad the airtime was helpful.

Would you mind showing off your UI while we're on the subject? As a habitual and incurable mouser/clicker I rely pretty heavily on my UI but haven't found anything that I like as much as a moderately customized version of the default UI.

For anyone about to embark on a UI overhaul, the Pitbull unit frames* addon includes a ticker on the main energy bar (under your health), so you don't need to add one elsewhere. It's very customisable too, although that does mean it can be a pain to get everything set up just how you like it.

For combo points, I use Nugie Combo Bar, and stick it right next to my avatar on-screen. You can mess with the size and the colour of each point individually, so it can be discreet, or a huge great "GO" light when you hit 5pts :)

* Unit frames are the part of the UI that show health/energy/mana/buffs for you, group members, targets, etc.

On my rogue I stick my energyticker addon right at the feet of my char in the lower middle of the screen (I play with the camera fully zoomed out), so that I can watch the opponent and the ticker at the same time. I put it under my portrait when I first got it, but it just took my attention away from my opponent for an eyeblink, which was not a good thing.

Just a remark.

I was about to mentione these as well.

My standard blizzard UI unit frames were giving me grief as they were
disappearing when I switched targets and such, so I got Pitbull.
Not only do they look good and are highly customizable, they got energyticker
built in, and also though maybe less important mana ticker.

It is not a huge thing to set up, and if you are not much into addons
(Like i once was), it is a nice first step :)

Like pitbull, xperl unit frames shows energy ticks as well as an indicator for 5-sec rule when casting; very helpful for all kinds of regen. It also will recolor entire unit frames that need attention, such as critical health or requiring poison/curse removal, as well as 'flash' when you have HoTs applied that are about to expire.

Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks I suppose, but yes the energy tick is immensely helpful. I remember watching rogue videos wondering why the hell someone would need to see that...now I know. :P

I use pitbull as well. Very customizable and I like it, though it does bug out every once in a while and show some random icon as the background of the target frame for me.

Between that and Quartz I can time everything nicely. Most of what I like to see is covered between those two mods and everything else I have show up as text in one of the SCT frames. WitchHunt and TankAlert are cool for letting you know what is going on with mobs besides just the one you have targeted.

SCT is nice too. it has a combo-counter that shows how many CP's you have saved up on a target. when you hit 5 it says "Finish it!" and if you de-target that target and re-target it later (without losing those combos) then it pops the "Finish it!" line up again to remind you you have 5 on that target.

quite nice.

I'm using the MazzleUI compilation. Resource hog, but lots of useful addons.

Download and screenshots.

I use Pitbull too, but once in a while it bugs. Mostly, with the "mouse-over" target.
But...yes, energy-ticker is a bless. Makes my powershift works perfectly.
