Well I hopped on my 70 and respecced Holy (again) this time with the intent of doing some BGs and eventually doing some arena. This was my first go at arena after S3 kicked in to play and after a few losses and one win my 2v2 buddy and I decided we both needed to seriously upgrade our gear for arena before we attempt to do it again.

So I've been doing BGs trying to get the PvP epics with S1 gear and my Rogue buddy is doing that too. I've found that I can tank players much better as Holy as I could as Prot just by healing through the damage. I am literally laughing when I've got 3 guys pounding on me and I'm keeping myself alive long enough for the calvary to come and wipe them out, me still standing after the ensuing battle and eating my manna biscuit.

I'm also almost always the top BG healer across both factions, and on an unlucky BG I'm second or third. I'm also seeing how having at least one healer around dedicated to healing is like having a nigh-unstoppable army and I have a lot of fun marching in with 4 dps going up against 7 enemies and winning because I am healing them all. An enemy which refuses to die is an enemy that cannot be beaten.

Anyways, just thought I'd share what I was up to. Don't worry about the respec, my heart is still with tanking, but it just doesn't work in PvP nearly as well as Holy. (You can check out my healing gear in my profile link. Obviously more PvE healing gear, but like I said I'm starting to work on getting my PvP healing gear.)

Wait, you respecced holy? Welcome to the dark side! Err...or is it light side?

Haven't done any BGs on my pally yet, but in arenas I'm usually the last one standing.

You sound like me last week. BTW, you'll love the S1 gear. Its pretty sick. I couldnt believe how much of a difference it makes, even one piece at a time.

**Edit
I just checked your gear, you would be really surprised how similar our gear is. Your Chest, bracer, shield, helm, rings, trinkets, Libram, and cloak are all the same. Which piece are you getting first? Shoulders would probably make the largest impact at first, but the gloves are really nice too.

I've been debating that with myself. The S1 mace looks nice and will boost my healing by another 150 or so. Looking at a lot of the PvP gear and my current gear, it looks like I'm going to be losing some healing, so having the mace should even it all out. It's also the most expensive piece so getting that out of the way would be nice.

After that probably the gloves. I spam FoL almost the entire time, so the extra crit would be nice. Then the shoulders, etc.. etc...

I'm really looking forward to getting that set done.

Resto Druids and Shaman tend to go down pretty quickly in BG's to any substantial amount of focused fire, but Holy Paladins and Holy/Disc Priests can be absolute nightmares to take down. Just like you said, they will stand there with half a dozen people beating on them and just survive all over you until a crowd of their buddies shows up.

Whenever there is a healer around I always make it a point to stop throwing LB/CL's with my Shaman and focus on them, Earth Shocking every heal I can (which, unfortunately, is every other at best) and purging every shield and/or buff. Too bad most of the rest of the Alliance is too stupid to get on board, and when they do, they just try to DPS the healer down instead of interrupting and controlling it.

Just makes me sigh and shake my head.

You could get exalted with Sha'tar in the time it would take to get that mace.

True, but the PvP one is still better.

Funny, I think I read this post before vacation, and it subliminally stuck in my head.

This whole past week, my cushy little PvE butt has been doing nothing but PvP. I am totally shocked to find I LOVE it!

I was going for the mace myself, as I've been running Kara for the last 4 months waiting for one of the 2 maces to drop, and have been outrolled every time. I just can't stand the thought of buying that Sha'tar rep mace for 190g only to dump 250g of mats on the enchant, just for 80 +healing and a purple name.

I ended up replacing my Breastplate of Many Graces with the S1 chest instead. Maybe I'll get the belt next (yes, I am still deluding myself that I'll get a Kara mace... this HAS to be my week, RITE?).

I think this is the (expensive) route I'll be taking on my paladin, prot tanking for PVE, holy healing for PVP. I really love PVP healing, but if I heal a dungeon I get bored to tears. Strange eh.

Honestly, in my book, pvp healing rocks !!!

Nothing, and I mean ab-so-lutely NOTHING beats being jumped by 2-3 players and just standing there healing through it for 30-40 seconds until your buddies come trouncing along and beat the bejesus out of your wrongfully hopeful adversaries.

What can I say.... I love it.

Haha, and nothing is more frustrating if you are a clumsy speed typer such as myself to try and call for help in the span of a FoL.

That's why I use Teamspeak. Smiley: nod

I don't call for help. The way I figure it one of two things is going to happen when I start "tanking" players by healing through their damage.

1. My allies are going to come and net me a few HKs as they kill everyone.

2. I'm going to die and my enemies are going to take a good 30-45 seconds doing that. (Unless they are smart, but there are SOOO many people who forget they have interrupts until 30 seconds have gone by and I'm still at full health.)

In the first scenario, yay I got some HKs and I haven't died.

In the second scenario, I have held up a good 3 or 4 people at that spot for 30 seconds, that could be enough time for my allies to grab a node or cap a flag or something. So while they are killing me slowly and laughing and spitting on me, we've 4-capped them and will eventually win. Gaining me more bonus honor in the long run.

In the second scenario they kill you and take a node that could have easily been defended had you said "help stb" or whatever.

If you aren't going to properly defend, dont stand by a node like you are going to defend it please. Might as well be AFK as far as im concerned.

I'm usually on the offense, I find that I help the most there, so it's usually more like... I'm healing people in a push towards a node, they all eventually die and I'm sitting there healing myself until the rapture. Meanwhile all my allies have rezzed and moved to another node while several guys are still trying to kill me.

iknow what you mean. ive been killed in AV in the IB rush, had to rez at my cave basically and was running back to the front lines. I get jumped by a group of horde midfield campers and just sit there and spam FoL making them waste as much time as possible on me. It is pretty funny when it takes so many of them to kill you. And when they have that many people they do seem to think interrupts are unnecessary. lol?

I dunno, I've seen a pally occupy my teammates like that for far too long before. It is certainly a tactic, but it doesn't make sense to me for a few reasons.

If you are fighting, good tactics indicate you would be at a node. If you are the only one on your team at the node, it means you are outnumbered by the node's defense, or their offense has already won. Or, you have all S3 gear and plan to steamroll whoever is there (in which case you don't need help anyway).

I use my map non stop. If I see a team mate off on their own at a node, and in battle, ***** em. My time is far better spent healing that group of 3 across the way defend a node we still have, than helping that one person who will probably be dead by the time I get there anyway.

I'd just say most of the time it's luck that brings your friends to you, and if not, those people whose attention you are occupying are probably not the ones your team should be worrying about. I prefer to play a good solid defense than a hopeful offense, but that's why I'm Alliance. Smiley: clown

And wow, 30 seconds before they remember to interrupt? Alas, my Alliance brethren, when will you learn?

Edit: But yeah, in the case you mention, calling for help would be pointless. Plus it's fun to imagine the frustration of all those guys trying to down you, and failing.

In my current healing gear I got about 1250+ healing. My FoLs heal for about 1200 non-crit every 1.5 seconds. That's 800 hps without critting that you have to overcome in order to kill me, and even if you're putting out a combined 900 dps, thats still 80 seconds until I'm dead if I'm not being interrupted. More when you include bubbling and healing up to full.

I love idiots.

I posted about a draenei pally vs draenei pally fight I was in the other night on the main boards.

I was running through AV to galv the other day and the horde tried to control the bottleneck at Stonehearth. Basically they stun/root/sap anyone trying to get through and force them to rez at SP. Puts 80% of alliance on defense and allows horde to cap everything and win a reinforcement game, very smart move by the horde.

Well anyways I was running through when a 70 S2 Warrior and 70 t4 Boomkin tried to root me and kill me. I BoF'ed, stunned the Boomkin and started running, holy shocking myself. These two followed me pumping all the dps they could on me, doing everything to root me and I just healed through it and kept running. Finally after we had run all the way from Stonehearth to IB gy they gave up. They could not kill me.

I made it to offense and did more healing than any other guy in the the BG, help cracked their defense and heal a tank through Drek almost solo. We won the game.
