Really don't want to ask...but (talent build) :/Follow

#1 Dec 26 2007 at 8:35 AM Rating: Decent
*edit* Ooops nevermind. It's not so busy at work today and I had time to look thru all the talent builds. I think I'll go with this one Alla example

Ok, so I've taken a little break from playing my Hunter while leveling up my Warrior (co-tanked ZA's Bear boss yay). Anywho, my original 'main' has become my hobby toon.

Thanks to the holidays I've really gotten a chance at doing a lot of BGs (about 10k a day)... already capped my EotS badges (100). I do really well in the 'overall damage' department... thanks to multi-shot (I'm pretty sure that's the advantage in the numbers department).

My problem is single 1 on 1 killing power.

The reason I'm thinking about changing to MM or SV is... Last night in WSG a pally flag carrier was all by himself. I got the 1st shot off, and he still got me, it was a very fun/close fight tho. After 3 freeze traps, 1 intimadate, X amount of concus shot. 2 or 3 Aimed shots (after freeze trap). *Oh I'm sure gear was a huge issue also, I just started my BG'ing and only got the BG shoulders. Tonight I'll get my BG hands, then tomorrow I'll prolly get wrist. I'll replace my Val bow for last.

I'm thinking Scatter shot with a 30 sec CD and 1 sec longer stun would be better than my Intimadate (1 min CD & 3 sec Stun). I will miss my Wrath, I can kill Warlocks/Priest with that... Now I'll have to think of PvP trinkets XD

I checked the Q&A sticky, but really was not completly what I was hoping for. If anyone who hardcore BG that can link me their Armory that'd be great... If not no biggie, I've been mix/matching talents all morning thinking about how much MM and how much SV.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

I'm going with a bizarre hybrid right now. I sort of like it, people might try it. It's sort of a combo of survival and beastmaster. I forfeited some of the lower abilities of survival in order to get some of the abilities of beastmaster so it can still tank, but my critical rating is much higher than my former beastmaster build and my overall DPS are much higher. I still have to hold back when soloing, but it brings nice utility for instances, and still gives intimidate for PvP. Lots of hitpoints and a bit better armor too.

I'm pondering if I should remove one of the bestial discipline talents for wyvern sting though.. my pet won't have as high dps, but having both intimidate and wyvern sting sounds tasty...

Once I get my gear up to where I want it, this should be very beneficial to raids too, through expose weakness.

Coming from a pvp server I think I can best help answer your dilema. However what you have to realize is, that with every spec, you're going to lose something.

Being currently BM, you have to be willing to sacrifice your "I win" button, your pets awesome damage, and your own attack speed if you wish to invest heavily into either MM or SV.

Now with MM the damage may be greater on your side of the spectrum, but obviousl your pets will be lower. You receive Aimed Shot, Scatter Shot, and Silencing Shot. Not to mention your attack power can increase dramatically and the power of your ranged weapon also increases by quite a bit. In otherwords you hit harder, just not nearly as fast if you were BM.

If you want to switch to SV I highly recommend you have some gear to back yourself up with. PVP gear isn't really meant for SV sadly, but I've managed to work around it. Expect not to hit as hard as MM, or nearly as fast as BM, but you have some extra tricks that might just help you survive a little longer. Deterrence, Counter-Attack, Wyvern Sting, even Readiness can help, although most tend not go down that far into the tree.

The biggest suggestion anyone can give you is to expirement. Every spec has it's pro's and con's, it's a matter of what you want to give up as a hunter in order to fill the current role you wish to play as. Use what works best for you, and if all else fails, just go back to what you're used to.

To be honest... at 1st I was like wtf Smiley: lol But then I seen the reasoning behind the points... and I might give that a shot too. That's one good CC'ing talent build. Even with Intimadation which is nice. The only thing I'm noticing is once my pet goes... I'm helpless. No Intimadate, No Wrath, well not really helpless, but the dps kicks my pet's butt, and 1/2 the time I don't have a pet. XD

I just hate the 1 minute CD on Intimadate. It don't help me in the same fight, unlike Scatter shot will. I can kite someone for 30 seconds no problem before they close in.

I think I will try that MM/SV spec I posted (looks like one heck of a powerhouse build), then if it's not working out as show on paper, I'll change it again.

I'm sure with good gear I'll be fine... just right now I'm only going to be at 2 BG epics Smiley: cry, gloves tonight, bracers might be tomorrow.

Thanks for the input, I'll print that one out and put it for the next in line chain.

*edit* Oh Joobishwun you snuck that post in when I was typing. Yeah that's what is making the respec so hard. I don't want to lose Wrath, but that's a lot of CD time on that for a 1 mini-battle win. My wrath is usually on CD. Intimadate < Scatter shot IMO (for the CD length, and the duration).

I remember my PvP server Hunter lv29 was MM spec. I loved it. Even the Imp Concus that has a stun % helps, since I use that as soon as the CD is up.

Thanks for the input tho, I got a lot to think about XD

I'm Orc, so my pet has a bit extra attack to him from racial. I also have blood fury (same CD as Wrath I think) with trinkets, and Rapid shot... I'm not so worried about losing it for the DPS, just the fear/charm/stun protect. You're right tho... it'll be a trade off either which way. =(

What more do you want for PvP?
Its gopt it all: Scatter, silencing, Big shots, more hp, surefooted, (almost) no trap resists, Imp Concussive and Imp. Wingclip, Deterrence and i probably missed some things.

oh yeah, imp. arcane for more disspelling of nasty buffs and more dmg while kiting.

I change to the MM one that I edited last night in my post.

OMG I love it. I crit like crazy. My crits are pretty good, even just starting out in my BG epic gearing. Scatter Shot is awesome, and Silencing shot helps.

I Silence the healer, then Scatter him/her, and finally freeze trap him/her, and sit back while the pack of Hordies eat up what he/she was healing... then turn to the healer (bass-ackwards I know... but we've all seen it).

I'm thinking things will only get better and better with the more gear I get.

Oh btw, I key binded my Concus and Arc shot. I am now doing the run away, jump, shoot move... Weeee Smiley: lol

I've been numerous variations of every spec in my hunter's lifetime. My favorite one hands-down is similar to Aethien's post:

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=cZVVVoVzhestchoGub

It is good for everything
-I am effective in BG's and Arena's
-I can trap and dps very effectively in 5-mans and raids
-I can grind without breaks for hours on end and surprisingly my pet holds aggro very well (compared to other specs I've tried)

The only 2 things I miss with the 0/43/18 are surefooted and the extra 2 points in survivalist. I chose to go with careful aim over these though. At a glance it seems useless, but I found it adds a nice bump to my AP. My respec cost deteriorated from 50g to 20g with this spec before I decided to try the one below.

Currently I am experimenting with this build solely for PvP. It's a SV/MM hybrid and very much lacks the versatility of the spec above:

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=cZE0VoVzhZchhhtcMuVzh

So far I am really enjoying this in battleground and arenas, but it will require me to respec for raiding. I also don't like grinding with this spec as much, and it won't be as effective in instances. Good PvP build though. You can shuffle it around a bit to make a PVE build that is similar. One reason I am trying this is it seems like every hunter these days is a typical BM or MM build, and I think it catches people by surprise when they find themselves facing a SV hunter.

I hope this helps. Personally I love the hunter's talent trees as there are so many different effective options, and we're not really cookie-cut into certain specs for certain things.

Nothing is good at everything.
And that includes your build.
Its decent for pvp (missing some key things like imp. concussive) but close to the 'cookie cutter' pvp build (0/41/20).
Its good for 5-mans and second to only 0/21/40 imo.
And its decent for karazhan, raiding beyond karazhan its just plain weak and 5/20/36 or 41/20/0 are much better.
Also, every hunterspec can grind for hours on end ;) even 0/0/0 so thats a pretty weak point...
