So I've heard from a few guildies that having the gladiator set for beginning kara is good enough. From the various posts I've read, having a few pieces, maybe 3 at most is better and then getting the various dungeon drops is better. So which is the better option? And then second question, how many points to you get per win in a BG on it's holiday weekend? I ask because I'm starting work on my PVP gladiator set for both my 70 pally and 70 hunter and would kind of like an estimate of how long it might take, thx

OK let me explain something to you about the mechanics of Blizzard itemization. Each item has an item level (not the same thing as the level needed to use it). That item level determines the amount of stats on an item. Greens always have lower ilevels than blues, which have lower ilevels than same level epics. Season 2 arena gear has a higher ilevel than season 1, therefore season 2 has higher stats on it.

Now, knowing an item has a certain limited amount of stats on it, based on its ilevel, you see that arena gear has resilience on it. Because it has resilience on it, it lacks something else that an equal ilevel item would have. In the case of arena gear, it is mp5. Mp5 in arena is all but useless, therefore it is a waste of the ilevel points to have, and Blizzard did not include much (if any) mp5 on arena gear. Therefore, if you try to use PvP gear, you will seriously hurt for mp5, to the point of possibly causing the death of one of your raiders because you didn't have the mana to heal them.

Other classes can freely use PvP gear as a starting point for raiding. DPS gear is DPS gear is DPS gear, after all (though PvE gear will do more DPS in a raid). However, for the paladin class, we do not have the option of using PvP gear in raids. Any paladin that does, probably has a terrible amount of mp5 and won't be able to heal in extended battles (which don't happen in PvP. When was the last arena fight you did that lasted 15 minutes of continuous, non-stop, healing?) I'm glad that you are seeking advice from multiple sources, this shows you have the potential to learn from the more experienced people and will probably go far in this game. However, I'm telling you from experience, and the above listed reasons, you do not want to use your arena healing gear in PvE, ever.

You'll do very well starting out in Kara in a mix of pvp/pve gear...as you progress you'll want to get more pve gear as Dilbrt suggests

Im currently using 3 peices of S1 gear, and will be using the vindicators boots by this weekend. Im at 96mp5 while casting and it will go up when I get my pvp necklace. I have yet to step foot in kara.

Pvp gear goes lack mp5, which is something you're going to need. However, you can use pvp gear to fill in the slots where good healing pve gear is hard to find(belt, wrist, shoulders). Pvp gear also has good crit bonuses, so if you spell crit, you can pick up some pvp stuff. If you can't find good dungeon plate healing gear, try to grab some non-plate stuff. I'm still wearing cloth boots and mail wrists. =)

That is what my actual post was ment to emply. It is possible to do it with PvP gear, but you have to be aware of your poor Mp5. You have to make adjustments, things like Mp5 backs, necks and rings when possible. Also look for sheilds that have Mp5 over shields with better healing stats.

IMHO, a reasonable mix of PVP and PVE gear works fine together just do some research on what you are getting. My guild is raiding SSC and TK and although my gear isn't great, I have no problem healing with several pcs of PVP gear, and all of our top Pally healers have several PVP items.

I would look more for the Vindicator's ring and neclace as well as the S1 healing mace as your 1st purchases. The ring and neck both have mp5, and the mace is arguably as good or better than anything dropped from Kara.

+1755 healing
and +86 mp5 while casting
