Heroic Slave Pens Chest FarmingFollow

Sorry if there is already a post about this, I couldn't find one on last 8 pages.

I don't know how many Hunters have heard of this but its pretty profitable. A video of it can be found here.

My question is to people who have done it or do it often. I just tried doing this last night and I've popped the chest before but I am having trouble with the pulling. Like 50% of the time when I'm under Eyes of the Beast, half of the mobs aggro my pet and the rest go for me. So I have to quickly take off EotB and feign before I get 1-2 shotted. Anyone else having this problem or have a solution?

Also, a tip to those having trouble making the 3-jump onto the ledge. Just use a Lesser Invisibility pot and go around the Nagas.

The agro thing seems random or pathing position related, try to keep mobs in sight and dont try cutting corners, stay in open basically.

As for going around, I did it without FD or any invis pots, simply watch pats and its cake.

Yeah. There's an easier way to do it, without the walljumping and potting. I think there's a vid on youtube that explains it.

So I must be a little slow, but what is the point of farming a chest in heroic slave pens?

Munneh, mayn. Munneh!

Heroic chests drop quite a bit of valuable stuff and soloing them means you get it all to yourself.

Really heroic chests are the same as normal level 70 chests. The difference is slave pens is a level 62-64 instance, so you have to run it on heroic for good chests.

One question comes to mind, though I have never tried this. Do you have Aspect of the Viper on? The Mana regen of AotV, for some reason, generates hate the way healing does. I've noticed it several times, while solo grinding, if I have my pet go into a group, I have Viper on, my pet is attacking one, but hasn't attacked any others, I only arcane and steady, and for some reason still gain aggro for the others.

So again, did you have Viper on? If so you might want to think about turning it off.

Edit: Just watched the video, be warned that due to the wall jump this probably is breaking the rules, if you can do it without the wall jump, then go for it, but using the wall jump could be considered exploiting the mechanics of the game to gain an edge on other players(through making lots o'gold), which is a suspendable offense.

I'll have to give this a try, but I have a question.

Does anyone know of any locations that state that Normal chests drop %'s versus Heroic Chests Drop %'s?

I have seen people say Heroics drop better blah blah and Heroics srop the same as Normals....it all seems like speculation.

I;m looking for proof.

Nope, I always keep Cheetah on to get To and From the chests quickly. Pet food and Mend Pet are both off as well by the time I send in. I'm thinking the pet has to get a good hit in on one of the mobs. If the pet misses...that might be whats causing my troubles. I'll test it out later.

Well as far as these arguments go, there are 2 answers depending on what you're looking at.

1) Heroic Chests </= World Chests: World Chests are never something you should actually try to farm as most of the time people will find them first and take the good loot out of it. Leaving you only slices of bread and a crappy gem.

2) Heroic Chest </= Well in some cases I can see this being true like Shadow Labs or any instance where the bosses drop the same lvl 68 blues as in normal mode. As for Slave Pens, (Point of discussion) the normal instance is around 63 so doing heroic for the level 70 greens/blues and 40g+ rare gems, its worth it.

Dungeons have a few types of chests

Fel Iron Chest
Bound Fel Iron Chest
Adamantite Chest
Bound Adamantite Chest

If you run SP on normal mode, since its a lower level dungeon, you'll find Fel Iron and Bound Fel Iron Chests. The higher level dungeons and heroic dungeons have the Adamantite ones, but from everything I've heard (and I've read a fair bit into this), they contain the same things in normal vs. heroic mode.

I just tried this and that jump point doesn't seem to be there.

Guess I will have to try the run around

I would say the point would be of doing something challenging.
For money making I could think of dozen easier and more profitable ways.

I used to have the same problem Kalvatar. I found myself using my pet, hitting a mob in the middle of the pack, and then all of a sudden about 3 mobs would follow the pet, and the rest would come attack me.

The key I've found is to attack the mob closest to you with your pet, and run it past the others. Your pet may die on his way out trying to escape, but I've had more luck attempting it this way then I did with trying to hit the mob furthest away from me in a pack.

If your pet dies it's no big deal, just FD, rez him and start over. For the most part I never have to rez my pet cause I've gotten used to it. Just takes some practice.

Ok so I did this yesterday. The wall jump isn't needed, you can easily run around the area.

My qestion has to do with the heroic itself.

You can't hard reset(when you click on your icon and select the reset intance tab) heroics. Soft resets only make mobs respawn, I doubt it will cause chests to respawn too. So basically I am seeing you only able to do this once a day. Is this right?

Also, how is it saved. If I were to go and collect the chests for the day, then come to find out that today is the SP heroics daily, would I be able to join a group and complete the daily, or will it not let me into the instance because I already have a heroics saved for the day(since I altered it by collecting the chests)?

I'm not positive but I think that the instance isn't 'saved' for the day until the first boss (or mini-boss) is killed.

I have often wondered if world chests 'refill' after a time when they aren't fully looted. The reason I think they might is because I was out on the coast of Swamp of Sorrows doing a quest and I partially looted a chest (my bags were kind of full) and after about a half hour (drop rate was really sucking) I decided to check the same chest again and it had a green in it. I had seen no other players anywhere around all the time I was out there. In other cases, I have found chests with good stuff in them in busy areas where it seemed unlikely that I had just happened upon a freshly spawned one (though still possible).

It actually despawns and respawns. I've been farming in the same area(not a general vicinity, but one specific spot). It just happens that a chest spawn in that area. I looted what I wanted and kept the garbage in there. It stayed there for I would say an easy 30 minutes, then it despawned and as soon as it faded completely away, it respawned in the exact same spot. I've only seen this happen once or twice. I've seen them despawn several times, but only once or twice spawn in the exact same spot.

When it respawns in the exact same spot, many people pass over it, thinking "I already checked it and it only had junk left in it" so they leave it be. When I saw the above occur I decided to check every chest even if I checked it once already before.

You can do up to 10 chests an hour. The method I use is this. I invite a random guildie, change to heroic and enter. The reason I invited a random person is because if you're by yourself and you die before you're finished, it will reset when you re-enter. I go loot chests and die because running back to entrance is a pain. (I do these runs naked) Step back out and change to Normal Mode then back to Heroic. I only do this to see a visual confirmation that it has indeed been reset. As you said, nothing happens when you just hit "Reset All Instances." Not sure about the Reset tab but I know 100% that this resets chests without killing a single mob.

I'm not engineering so I'm only getting 50-60% of the chests in there. I just send items to alt to disenchant and sell other stuff. Not being able to open all of the chests, I'm probably only making 60G an hour. If you count the Ancient Lichin and Felweed though...making probably 100G+. There are obviously better and faster ways to make Gold but this takes skill and its out of the norm. I can't fall asleep doing this like I can flying around Outlands picking herbs.
