Need some advise!!Follow

#1 Dec 24 2007 at 8:21 AM Rating: Decent
I am a new level 70 Protection Paladin. I have been a Holy paladin but not after the 2.3 patch. Was wanting to expand my gameplay and do much more than grinding and chatting :D I am also a guildleader on the Steamwheedle Cartel server and I am getting my guild ready to run end game instances and start raiding.

What I want to know is PvP and instance role. I really dont like tanking too much and suck at marking targets and such. Should I go back to Holy and heal my groups and is that good for PvP... I know nothing about PvP and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.

I want to start PvP BG and stuff and I know I am going to look like a noob but where should I start.. Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance and happy holidays!

Updated!!

Also was wondering if I should change my professions. I am leveling Mining and Jewelcrafting. Should I pick up something else.. I got a high level jewelcrafter in my guild.

I'm pretty sure that to excell in both pvp and pve a respec is needed. I know very little builds that can do awesome in both. Some excell more in either catagory and do fine in the other.

If you dont like tanking, then where pve is considered you can go back to holy and do fine as a pure healer in pvp (bg's) or even arena. Since 2.3 some say ret is a little better, but i still don't see a reason for that spec in end game pve and i have no clue as to how they do in pvp. Prot however hardly has any use in pvp. So Holy and ret are you options, where holy has been proven to work in both areas with perhaps a slight change in talents and ret could work in both, however i havent seen it yet.

I am afraid it comes down to a choice in focus. Pve or PvP. Being active in both will require regular respecs, 2 sets of gear at least, more time or a longer period before reaching new hights.

Go back to holy. In endgame PVE or PVP the Holy Pally is always always needed.

Also, to be successful, spec is important. In the past, I always said spec how you like and have fun with it. However, to be successful, go with a cookie-cutter build.

I got sick of going down in PVP like a cheap hoe, so I looked at my battlegroup arena PVP leaders and studied the various specs there. Almost all of the successful pallies had the same holy/prot spec. I followed that template and now I am a viable factor in every BG. Topping the healing charts or at least always near the top is now routine.

Want some? I'll give you some. It is spelled adviCe not adviSe. I am advising you now, you are seeking advice. I don't even care for correct grammar, but that made me want to scream and refuse to help. Alas, you're asking about holy so I feel I have to respond.

Holy would defiantly be more viable in PvP than protection, and anything is more viable in a raid than ret so, holy sounds like what you need to be.

As far as professions, and getting yourself ready for kara, make yourself familiar with my pre-kara holy guide, all your questions are answered in there.

I noticed that too but I wasn't about to chew off anyone's head for it... I guess Holy Palys are really high strung.

Maybe he really meant that Holy, in PvP, is more defiant?

You all are funny, but thanks for the advise and help. I went into the Holy tree last night and I like it a lot. With the +spell dmg stats from the patch, I kill mobs faster now in solo then when I was protection spec. I know that protection spec is a tank and tanks do not DPS but I was worried that I would not be able to grind solo as a Holy paladin. Works great!!

Happy Holidays on and all and thanks for the help!

I got so excited to see another SWC person, that is until I found that you were a human. No advise for you.

Well I guess it would be ok, since we are not ingame. I don't like to break character.

I have a friend that takes Protection to PvP. He basically acts like a damage sponge until we kill everyone. He pretends to "heal" himself, that usually makes everyone attack him.

At that point I keep him standing while our warrior friend cleans them up.

It doesnt work very well in Arena, but they have won a lot of games because of it. They will never break 1600 with it, but he has a lot of fun with it.
