nightbane fight for a shadow priestFollow

#1 Dec 24 2007 at 1:35 AM Rating: Default
As a shadow priest in the nightbane fight i want to do damage. One problem i have noticed however is that even with shadows reach my mind flay puts me just slightly inside the fear range of nightbane. Now last night we used our wards on the mt to keep him from being feared.

Should i reccomend that he stance tanks instead and we priests get to fear ward ourselves.

Any tips from a shadow priest position for this fight?

Its on a timer, and has a long cast time, just run out of range when he casts it.
If a tank can stance dance, you can run out of range.

If youre really having problems, get in a Shaman party for tremor totem, although as SP youre probably being stuck in the caster group and the Shaman in the tank/melee group. And melee DPS has to run more distance to get out of range then you, so they can use it more then you.

Btw, the tank not getting feared (and building aggro) is 100000x more important then you losing 3 secs of DPS.
Moral of the story: Dont ask what the raid can do for you but what you can do for youre raid.

lol i am asking what i can do to help my raid.. thats why im here. If i improve and learn a few secrets for shadow priests in this fight. i get better, that means i contribute more.

And if i hear that stance tanking is more effective than fear wards.. yes i will put those wards on myself and ask the tank to dance, because being a shadow priest thats three seconds of dps, with 2 fears per phase, thats 6 seconds. over the course of the fight (3 phases) thats 18 seconds of dps gained.

However if i find that running out is a good possibility. than of course i will put my fear wards on the mele.

also if i can convince my tank to stance dance, then on the rare occasion that a fear would hit one of our priest healers. they would totally not have to worry about it because they have a ward. and three seconds in a healers world is insanely more important than three seconds in a dps world.

so thanks for the tips i will be asking my tank about stance tanking.

LOL but on a small sidenote, i was looking for tips to improve myself Not for a pharagraph on how selfish i am.

Running out is an obvious solution and i thought you would figure that fearward is best used on anyone beside ranged dps. So "can i use it on myself" came across that you dont think about the big picture. Nothing to personal ;)

Sure the tank can stance dance but he must time perfectly, spends time in zerker, taking 20% more damage. If you have a well geared raid, sure let him stance dance, but if you have an unexperienced raid i wouldnt recommend it.
Dont know how hard Nightbane hits/is nowadays havent done him in some time.

All in all: You running out is the safer option.

The best option is bringing a shaman.

You can run out, Mindblast, SW:D run back in and flay some more, youre DPS loss is rather minimal.

There shouldn't be a big deal with the fear wards to be honest. After the recent alterations the priests won't have fear ward cooled down often enough to keep it up on the tank anyway (given a typical group). Nowadays, stance dancing is considered standard and fw as a safety net. Personally I just eat the fear and run about for 3 or 4 seconds. Also, as mentioned above, running out of range on fear cast is an option, although tricky.

I'd say just eat the fear, personally. Or run out. Either way, the tank is a better target for a fear ward. A healer would be a good secondary target for one if the tank is confident in the stance dance.

if you have enemy castbar turned on (which you should if you're raiding) then you should know when to stop and run. Asking the tank to stance dance simply because you want fear ward on yourself is flat out selfish. Yes you're asking how to improve yourself, step1: do whats better for the raid not you

Stand at max range while still being able to mindflay, when you see him start to cast his fear, STOP, turn around and run.

Tanks should be stance-dancing on fights like that regardless of fear ward imo. They should know how to use it anywho since there won't always be a fear ward.

However, you're better off either running out or just eating the fear. The fear ward is still better placed on healers or the tank. And in my experience, the 3 seconds of no DPS isn't a bad thing at all, you'll be riding the tank for threat anywho, especially since Nightbane is screwy and you pull at 100% of the tanks threat instead of 110/130%.
