pet can't learn anymore skills?Follow

Was trying to teach my kitty dash and was informed that he can't learn anymore skills?

Is there a cap to the number?

He already knows growl, claw, bite and prowl - which one would be best to dump for dash or is dash not worth taking?

I'm doing the BGs with my hunter so dash seemed like it'd be pretty good, especially since I'm working WSG right now.

I'd dump bite. Prowl is useful in BG's and claw is just too good against casters.

Four active Pet skills. And I'd say that Prowl is the one to lose, unless you're a Nelf.

There's two types of skills a pet can learn: active and passive. Active skills are things like Growl, Claw, Prowl, Lightning Breath, Screech, etc. Passive skills are things like Great Stamina, Avoidance, Natural Armor, Arcane Resistance, etc. A pet is limited to four active skills at a time, but may know any number of passive skills (limited by training points, of course).

Since you PvP, I'd drop Bite for Dash, but it's up to you. Night Elf's Shadowmeld along with Prowl makes for great fun, especially combined with Aimed Shot... :P

If you were PvE mostly, I'd have said drop Prowl for Dash, since I personally haven't seen much benefit for it except for the occasional Eyes of the Beast scouting mission...

I used to have a cat with Prowl, Bite, Claw, Dash and frost/nature/shadow resistance especially for BG's.
And i found that to work pretty damn good.
But it does require you to have another pet for PvE and thus more petlevelling.

Dump growl if you're doing BG's with him? In instances you're cat can maybe manage as pureDPS without any need for growl as well perhaps?

4 means you have to prioritise what you want your pets for and i like having 2 pets (1 instancer & 1 PvPer) so i can specialise my skills for each.

Great helpful advice each and every one of you - many thanks!

I'm only 42 so I've got a bit of leveling to go yet and will be doing a lot of PvE yet (PvP is more of a hobby to get some gear with this toon) so I'm definately not dumping growl (although I do need to remember to turn it off in the BGs as its definately a waste of...whatever pet rage points are called).

This toon is a BE so standing invis with the invis pet isn't happening (although it does sound like an obscenely slamming ambush technique for the flag room - maybe I'll make some invis pots as this toon is an alchy).

Guess I'll either toss bite as suggested (I do find a lot of use for prowl as it rather consistantly gives him crits on his first strike) and I'm not seeing myself doing enough PvP to warrant having multiple pets.

It's focus, and it's more like a rogue's energy than a warrior's rage.

And as far as I've seen, pets don't growl at players. You won't have to worry about it unless you're attacking other pets or you're in AV attacking NPCs.
