I'm making a troll mage but would like to know why I don't see a lot of them. Is it because they have bad racials or because they don't look cool (I love the way my trolls looks). Should I just make a different troll class like the rogue or hunter?
Beucase WotF is considered OP, since the alternative exists...you know what happens.
Most people don't like the look of trolls, I for one think they walk and talk awesome. Also, well yeah the Troll's racials don't fit for a Mage very well. Undead is the best choice for a mage racials-wise.
Trolls are cool, but they are more fit to be Hunters, not Mages, but still they look awesome and if that's good enough for you, then ***** Undead and explore the world on your jamaican troll mon!

I have a troll mage. The racials aren't particularly useful for a mage. I just took one to be different.
Bows- useless
HP regeneration a little less useless, but you shouldn't be taking damage as a mage. If you are taking damage, you probably will die or at least take massive damage requiring you to eat conjured food after the fight, so the regen is not needed.
Bezerking. this is useful in lower levels. If you do have someone pounding on you you want to get your spells off faster. If you are being pounded on, your hit points will be lower and you will get more benefit. But generally if you are being pounded on a regular basis, something is wrong with your tactics. And in the higher levels you will die. I'd use it even at full health and just accept the fact you won't get full benefit of it.
plus is the casting animation looks pretty cool. :)

The only good part for troll mages is berserking during boss fights, it is like having a decent haste potion (or is that what shaman's use but of the same name?)
Yeah the reasons are what everyone else gave: basically if you want the best racials, you go UD. My mage is a troll, though, because I think trolls are cool -- we be burnin' down da place, mon.
If I could do it over, i would have rolled undead for my mage, but I don't mind my troll to much. Only troll mage in the guild.
I see a lot of troll mages. People care more about whose *** they're looking at all afternoon than they do about racials.

I'm in two minds whether I would of liked to of played a Troll or an Undead Mage. However I do really like the lore of the Undead, but I hate the way they move and the fact that for some strange reason their bones stick out through their clothes! Kinda petty I know.
However Will of the Forsaken (WOTF) is IMO the best racial in the game.
In the end however I rolled a Blood Elf. :)

I picked undead purely for aesthetic reasons. I've mentioned loads of times, male undead have IMO the best targeted casting animation in the game.
Troll mages are fine, however. I actually see a high percentage of trolls that are mages. Trolls are the least played race in the game based on what I see on WoWCensus generally, so that may attribute to it.

Berserking probably even makes trolls better then UD in pve, it's just so damned handy to get out of a fear for free.

I'm going to be doing a fair bit of pvp but I'll also be pveing quite a bit with my father. If I go with a troll, will I still be usefull in pvp?
Useful or not, you won't play a race you don't like the look of. That`s all it comes down to, really. I love how undead looks. So I picked it.
