I want to start a fire mage but i also want to know which does more damage a destruction warlock or a fire mage
You mean right now, or after the various tweaks and nerfs/buffs to each class that's bound to happen over time?
I think in the end people prefer a mage for pure damage over a lock. back when I leveled a lock I would tack on a few DoTs and spam shadowbolts with the VW tanking.
However with my mage that I'm currently playing with, I can kill just about anything within three or four hits (pyro, fireball, scorch, fireblast on mobs)
On another note, I don't think I've ever seen a warlock DPS-ing well outside my guild's kara runs.

warlocks dps very well in raids, although I tend to come out above them depending on the fight of course. If there is a lot of movement their ability to put up dots while moving makes a big difference.
