No. Newly dinged level 70s are not ready for heroics. You should be in all instance blues before you go into one if you want to do well.

The armory seems to be messed up again at the moment and I can't see the gear you are wearing. However, you are elemental spec, but have more +healing on your gear than spell damage. What role do you want to play in heroics...

In either case, your +healing isn't high enough for heroics (and you would need a respec) and I would think you can get higher than 400 spell damage before hitting heroics?

If you aren't level 70 yet, it tells me you haven't run the tempest keep instances at all yet. I would definitely run those at least a few times and upgrade your gear before you try heroics.

Again, sorry for not giving specific gear upgrades but for some reason the armory won't show me your gear when I mouse over it.

Work on your gear, when you start heroics try to have like 600+, your crit seems alright tho.

As Jmfmb stated, I would not recommend a heroic run as elemental until you are at least at or above 600+ spell damage with 19-20% unbuffed/pretalents spell crit.

Your tank will also have to be spot on, because taking a shaman along that's not healing is somewhat of a liability for new groups, due to the fact we don't have any crowd control effects. And you will be frost shock kiting some of the pulls in some of the dungeons.

I don't think anyone is ready for heroics until they've done the instance several times and know all the pulls and boss mechanics anyway.

Once you get the welfare epics start working on your spell hit rating and get it up to 100.

If memory serves, those epics will net you around 600-700 spell damage which is plenty for heroics and will give you the resilience needed to start 5v5.

I've been 70 for a while and had been trying to upgrade my gear.

I realized..... the epics I've managed to purchase from BG honour points are better than many drops I get from early parts of Kara and even some Heroics (I've done crypts, Mechanar so far).

Also, in the teams that I went in with,... my DPS, even though I have only about +530 SP, was already pretty high, if I'm not careful, sometimes I draw aggro and die. Had to watch omen. And these are pro teams that clear the heroics pretty fast. I've concentrated on dropping the correct totems for the teams in each fight before opening up with DPS.

I really Do NOT like some of the requirements being arbitrarily imposed on people working on heroics.

I had been turned down and scoffed upon when I've asked to join teams when people LFM on chat. But I'm quite sure I can do perfectly well in a team. I'm a team player who knows my roles.

REALLY REALLY hate it. If people do that, how are new 70s ever going to upgrade their gear beyond blues??

I'm lucky to have 2.3 and all the so called 'welfare' epics, as well as a guild that are willing to help me with gear.

Also very thankful for the few teams who were willing to look beyond my so called below par gear and allowed me in their teamms.

IMO, regular 5 man instances, most of us should know the mechanics of all the bosses well enough by the time we reach heroics to now how to handle them. As long as most of our gear are suitable blues (1 or 2 greens are should forgiveable). A good team with a tank that knows what to do (how to pull and position each boss) and a leader who can give the right orders (mark kill priority, CC, etc.). Heroics are not that hard.

Look at the ele gear list and see which pieces aren't from heroics.

Replace any of the ones that are with the welfare epics from PVP.

Don't spend your honor and marks on Gladiator gear. If you want to run heroics/Kara and be primarily PvE geared, you'll want the full Tidefury set if you can get it. Pieces drop in Slabs, Bot, Arc, Shattered Halls, and SV. Spend your honor and marks on the best possible epic wrist, belt, and boots, and a Glad weapon. Again, it's preferable to have instance blues for those pieces as well, but mail secondary slot pieces are pretty rare and very low % drops even where they do appear. Any blues I have on those slots have come from quests.

wouldnt tidefury be TERRIBLE? only one piece has +spell crit.

It also gives you spell hit, MP/5, three yellow sockets for you to plug spell crit gems into, as well substantial increases to Water Shield and Chain Lightning. If you take my advice, you'll also get plenty of spell crit off of the epic PvP complimentary pieces.

You have to understand, spell crit isn't all their is to Elemental Shaman. An unbuffed (except for ToW) crit % around 30% on your lightning spells is plenty. You will want enough spell damage for all of your spells to hit hard enough normally and enough MP/5 to last long enough in prolonged fights.

A lot of the Glad gear has +crit on it, this much is true. But it also has a ton of stamina with barely more +int than mediocre 60-70 blues and greens, often less, as well as item budget spent on resilliance. The result is that you'll have a ton more stamina than you need and go OOM constantly and in a hurry.

Personally, I have mixed and matched both PvP and Arena with the gear from 5mans and Karazhan (read the BBW head).

Netherstrike offer a nice Mana/5 boost if you want that... although with the recent changes to Water Shield, Elemental Focus, and the Mana Stream totem... the mana/5 issue is really becoming less of one.

I also agree with the posts about the wrists, belt, sabatons, and weapon. Those pvp-non-set epics are amazing pieces, and while they only offer one gem slot between the three, they are excellent pieces that you can get only better of out of heroics (read Wave-Song Girdle), heroic badges (read Treads of the Booming Thunder) or raiding drops (read that as things like the Hurricane Boots). Even then I would argue that the PvP options are better still. In the weapon department, while there is a weapon out there, the Runesong Dagger, with crit and damage, the damage is only 121. Also, there is a dagger out there with hit and damage, but it is from a heroic, and is still only 121 damage. The s1 caster weapons while not having hit or crit on them, have a phenomenal 199 damage, and are a great choice. I highly recommend getting one asap, since it saves you the problem of having to run through SH repeatedly trying to get it.

I do not agree wholeheartedly on the Tidefury set... I've rarely seen these pieces drop even on multiple runs per day of the instances including only seeing the chest drop once, but also, the statistical differences are not that much over the pvp gear.

Tidefury bonuses: 30 Int, ONLY 10 hit rating (0.81%) contrary to the above post praising the hit rating... , and only 4mana/5 without the extras of the bonus set. I will admit that it is nice to have that Chain Lightning drop reduction of the two piece Tidefury, but I also have not had the 4pc bonus after patch 2.3. If it is true and the subsequent mana refund is an extra 168 mana higher, that would further help out if you have constant mana problems by giving an extra 7.5 mana/5.

Gem bonuses of Tidefury: 3 yellow, 2 blue, 1 red, 1 meta. Meta selection is slim and is the same whether for this set or Thunderfist, and blues are usually some mix of stam, leaving with one red spell damage and 3 spell crit (read that I am going color specific, if you choose not to go color specific it doesn't matter the color of the slots anyway).

Thunderfist bonuses: 81 stamina, 85 crit rating (almost 4%), and 14 damage. The 4pc bonus is nice for instances where you have auras up, such as Mechanar, or if you do have to offtank something or solo kill a caster in places like Shadow Labs with the locks and pets in the refectory. Also, this is the only place you'll find an interruption reduction for elemental spells.

Gem bonuses of Thunderfist: Three red, three yellow, 1 meta. You have the option of going all spell-hit/crit/damage based in the two color slots, instead of Glowing Nightseyes in the blue sockets or adding in a Talasite with spell penetration.

If you are interested in joining the 5v5 group, you want stamina, crit, and resilience. You will achieve an extra 81 stamina, 4% crit, and 125 resilience increase with the so-called 'welfare gear'. If you want to PvE, the gladiator gear will serve you just as well as the Tidefury, apart from being more expensive to repair.

I disagree with Gaudion on the gear itself. I think the non-gladiator gear is a phenomenal place to start, but I think you would be fine with either s1 or Tidefury, I would choose s1 personally. Spell crit is not the only thing for an elemental shaman, but it is the most important thing. 4mana/5 and the water shield bonus versus the crit boost is a personal decision, but with the 172 mana/5 outside of casting and 62mana/5 while I currently have in addition to the Water shield and Mana Stream are enough to keep me going through very long cases of boss fights even when I am moving totems and spot healing.

Also, on a personal note, while I do not mind running instances trying to get pieces of the Tidefury to drop because it helps my guildies get geared, it does drive one absolutely bonkers when you are going through your fourth or fifth set of people and you're still waiting for the second piece to drop. S1 gear you know exactly how to get it, and a good day's worth of pvping can net you a piece of s1 gear.

Congrats on the 70 ding too.

Good luck and happy hunting.

Cheers!

If you have the right elemental spec you shouldn't need much if any hit rating on your gear at all for anything pre-raiding, talents alone with totem of wrath put you at +12% (+13% if you're a Draenei.)

The most you would ever need out of gear even for raiding is 4%, since it caps at 99%, according to WoWwiki. Source

We don't have any CC, unless its an experienced group or you have exceptional gear, i'm sorry to say, you will probably be getting turned down for heroics a lot. If you put forth extensive (sometimes not so extensive) effort on your half and go for better than blue gear (ie. pve socketed season 1 gear through honor points) then you will have a fighting chance.

I'm in almost full healing gear, but I respec'd elemental for farming; I have just about as much, if not more (I have Divine Spirit on, so actually I have a teensy bit less) +spell dmg than you. Work on your gear.

Oshu'gun Relic? I have that, and I REALLY need to replace it (I'm about to! Essence of the Martyr here I come!)...why do you have it as elemental? WTF?

because it boosts my spell damage for like 30 onds, it is also the best trinket ive come by besides the vengance of the illidari thing. im working on getting either to arcatraz twinket and the sky guard ribbon thing.

With the gear i have now i'm always top DPS, ive only been out DPSed by an epic'd mage with soulfrost on staff of infinate mysteries.

Also my first heroic was daily UB, my stormsong kilt dropped =D. But i had to roll for it against our healer?!?! Whom was a resto shaman that said she was gearing for elemental... i would have been pissed if i didnt win it >=0
