Aethian, I think that you're missing one bird. Oh wait, never mind, just noticed that its untameable. I guess I'm blind.

I reckon owls are superior.
Seriously, do you have any idea how nice it feels to be able to have a Mend Pet ticking on the pet when she has 3 mobs on her, and she doesn't loose aggro?

Yes, yes I do. I don't actually do anything in Outlands with my Hunter anymore aside from daily quests and leather from time to time. However, in consideration for soloing Scholo, the Owl is awesome! If your Hunter is an enchanter, I'd highly recommend having an Owl simply to farm old world dungeons for twink mats to Auction.

Mostly my pig is used for guilt trips, but that is a long story involving alot of beer and our Main Tank falling asleep (on more than alot of occasions) immediately after he'd pull.

Aside from that, every pet pisses me off because they are so dadgum needy. I'm sad, feed me, heal me, command me.. at least my cat iRL takes care of herself even though she definately puts me on /ignore a few times a day. *tail fluff*

Change that recommendation to a carrion bird for its increased armor and I'll agree with you. Increased armor means less need to 'mend pet' in the early stages of a fight with multiple mobs and hence less risk of pulling the mobs bird is not attacking. My bluebird 'of (hunter) happiness' has allowed me to solo most old world dungeons and only rarely pull aggro.

I'd heard all about the merits of the boar on this and other sites, so when my hunter got to about 50-ish, I finally decided to see what all the fuss was about. I'm not really hard-core, so I don't have threat meters and stuff like that to guage that sort of thing. I just play for fun.

Anyway, I got a boar and was having a good time, might have even kept him, but I couldn't stand the high pitched piggy-squeal every time I told him to attack. I think it only took about an hour for that to get so annoying that I dumped him.

Call me crazy, but I don't play with pets that I find annoying - no apes/bears - I can't stand lookin' at their butts all the time and no piggys 'cause the squeal drives me nuts.

Thank you for your time.

Maybe this is not even an option for you, but it doesn't matter if you don't have game sounds on. I use game sounds almost only when I'm fishing (to hear splash without looking at game)and otherwise I have skype or some music on.

I just started my first hunter and tamed a cat after reading a lot of information. Now I'm gonna get also a boar cos so many good comments about it. In the end I might have boar for single tanking and aggro, cat for DPS in instance and maybe Owl for multiaggro. Is it making any sense?
