my poor no-longer-special white lion :'(Follow

Just had to come here and seek sympathy. Now that the previously horde-only quests to spawn the white lions are available to alliance, I've seen them all over the place. No less than 3 today in SW.

I know it's a pain and a half to seek out the special skins, but for those of us who have gone through the nightmare it is to tame quest spawns of the opposite faction (I have Sian-Rotam and Arikara) there is a certain amount of pride in getting to show off the rather unique pet. Now, I'm going to look like I just followed the trend.

I was determined to tame one of the undead wolves when the news first broke about how to do so, but I've seen so many of those running around as well that the shine wore off a bit. I think I'll go and retame one of the white owls from Winterspring and level it back up instead.

I guess the only way to have a quasi-unique pet these days is to get one so ordinary or useless no one else wants it -.-

Yeah, it just seems as though there really aren't any really special pets anymore. Arikara isn't really special or unique, because Washte Pawne in the Barrens and Rogue Vale Screechers in Feralas look identical to it, and don't have caster attributes. And the ghost wolf is pretty popular now... A hunter brought one into Gruul's Lair last night. I didn't even notice until after Gruul was down, because he didn't have it out the whole time. I wanted to choke him. Gruul is a DPS fight, and he brought in a level 40 pet. *grumble* (sorry, /rant)

I like attention-getting pets. I used to get a lot of questions for the ghost saber that I have on my Draenei hunter, but that cat is pretty common now. I don't get AS much attention for my current pet, but I still get a few questions when people notice my ravager change color. I have the rip-flayer ravager from BEM that changes color every time it spawns. It's only special when people see me mount up with a purple ravager, and dismount and get an orange one.

I don't think Arikara has caster stats - or at least, Petopia doesn't warn about it. She doesn't have a unique skin, but I liked the puff-of-smoke effect.

Plus, she completes my collection of relatively rare reddish-skinned Horde-dominated lowbie pets. On my baby dwarf hunter, I have the springpaw cub from the Belf starting area, the barking wolf from the Tauren starting area, and Arikara.

This was about as good as I could get in creating a unique hunter :). Female dwarves are pretty darn rare themselves, and this particular menagerie would take either leveling up with 3 pets simultaneously (really not easy) or at least one very long pet grind.

So, it is my conceit that I will have created a one of a kind hunter. The price is pretty steep though - since I am not wild about the idea of leveling a baby pet at 70, I tamed the third (Arikara) at 32. This not only limits how much xp I can get while rested, but it also means that until Blizz puts the temp-tame-and-train back in, I'll be stuck with low level pet skills. I'm not fussed though, this girl is pretty much just a vanity toon.

oh yeah, I forgot about the puff of smoke. That's a good reason to get Arikara.

When did blizz take out the temp tame? I was SOOO upset when I went out to tame Rema- The Den Mother in BEM for Bite 9, and I got the "You already have too many pets" message at the end of the tame. I already had to give up my polar bearto get my ravager, but then I had to give up Arash-Ethis (white windserpent from Feralas) to learn Bite 9, just so I could squeeze out that little bit of extra DPS in raids.

I used to have a thing for white pets... Now I have a white cat, a ravager that changes colors, and a black dog. =( It doesn't even matter though... My pets don't have to match my mount anymore. Blizzard takes away all the little things that bring joy into my game. /cry

well, the ghost wolf also lands somewhere between 'marginally usefull' and 'useless', so why not to tame the rotting wolf (the name of which escapes my memory), from the plaguelands? :)
or just go the rotting boar, which may actually BE useful ;]

Rotting boars are the highest lvl boars, so half of all the hunters that have a boar have that one..

its really not original, at all....

Just tame a pure black boar, not very special but the highest lvl they are seen is a lvl 53 rare then a lvl 11 rare and lvl 7 boars ;P

the thing is, that (at least on Alonsus) the boars are not really popular pets... i see up to three hunters who run around with a piggy on lvl70 :>

The pink plainstrider south of TB still counts as rare too. Almost noone wants to be seen with that pinkish ****** that does just that... peck.

Though still I love to see people die from my chicken.
(that goes for the gnomish battle chicken too of course)

Dont you dare to offend Sweatpea! ;P
(not my pet, but Cakabar's hunter Cashara has the pink tallstrider)

Oh, and use tallstrider, that sounds so much cooler then chicken.
I wish they'd get a special ability, because they're really cool.

Something like Kick: 40 focus, 6 second cooldown, does X damage (say 2 3rds of bite) and has an 50% chance to interrupt casts.

That would be pretty cool and pretty good too ^^

I like tallstriders too and yes they should add a special attack to them.

It is just on my male char, the pink one looks a bit .. well .. odd.

My female huntress certainly runs with it, no matter the lack of special attack. At least there is always always ALWAYS focus for Growl. /smile

its the former horde only quest in winterspring that can get you the white lion if you are the right level the guy asks you to kill his mate and just as she gets to half health her mate the white lion spawns , look up sian-rotam , its a shame they are non elite now as it has almost made it simple to tame either of them , i had great fun trying to kill them as the fear and the elite health/armour was a sure group thing to complete it with any chance of success

as a ne hunter i watched several groups running around with no control when they got feared and even got feared myself even though i was some distance away , now its probably possible to do the quest alone but i am not so sure it is possible to tame either alone unless you are at least 65-70 as the damage they do combined with the fear they have will almost for sure get you or your pet running about

its was probably doable solo anyway (including tame)
that is, unless they are/were immune to fear.
Fear beast the white lion when it spawns and kill the other, then trap > abandon > tame.
