Switching to BM, question regarding rotationFollow

I've been spec'd SV since I started playing my hunter (almost 3 years ago), but I'm getting ready to respec to BM. I stopped playing my hunter a while ago, but I'd like take a break from my main and finish leveling him to 70 (the hunter is now at level 66).

I have a basic understanding of shot rotation. Typically as an SV hunter, my rotation consists of Steady>>>>Auto while weaving in Arcane/Multi every other cycle.

I also understand that weapon speed has a significant impact on shot rotation, but I was just curious regarding something I heard concerning the BM spec and rotations. With serpent swiftness, is it true that a "typical" shot rotation (assuming an "average" weapon speed) will consist primarily of Steady>>>>Auto? As I understand it, BM hunters who attempt to weave Arcane/Multi into their rotations experience more auto-shot clipping than it's worth.

Could one of you experts please verify this?

Yes, if you are specced BM you will get best results from a steady/auto rotation with no extra shots in there. Just remember to keep mend pet up.

My ranged attack speed is just about 1.7. I nearly spam steady shot, with just a tiny pause between uses, and get over double auto-shot DPS.

Just about anything else would lower my damage.

If I lowered my speed to 1.5, would I have to wait at all?

Keep in mind there's also a 0.5 second cast on auto-shot AFTER steady shot fires. A 2.4 weapon (pre-attack bonuses) is the fastest you'll want. You also want the fastest weapon that you can use without clipping auto-shots due to lag, so you dont have as much dead time. Sort of like the opposite of the price is right - get as close as you can without going under.

On bosses I'll throw in Arc shots when the CD is up in place of a steady shot. It might be wrong? but the magic dispel helps IMO (on some bosses anyway) XD I just actually started my Hunter again. Been BG'ing a lot trying to get epics (to replace my green: boots, shoulders, back)

It's funny even in blues and greens I still solo many epic out toons lol, and usually top 4 on the overall damage (mainly because of multi-shot, and pet chasing fleeing mobs I think) but still gives me a little laugh *especially when I get a whisper before the BG "Zomg you have 3 greens!!" I always say "Watch for me in the top of the dps charts lol".

I can't wait to get all epic'd out.. but I can only stand BG'ing for so long a night :/

check sig, there's a rotation macro in there for BM that includes Kill Command.

Kill command has a .5 second pause as well. If you link it to your Steady Shot macro it can occasionally clip an auto-shot. All the more reason to spam the macro while a steady is warming up to get that Kill Command off. Having a Kill Command fire after an Auto but before a Steady will clip my auto-shot. My attack speed is 2.1 and I don't want to be faster.

I find that in a raid anything that can be dispelled usually already is, making my arcane shots not that effective. Also, Although arcane is slightly more damage, the dpm is so much higher that it's not worth it. When you're in a long fight you'll chew through your mana much much faster if you try to put in arcanes and muultishots. If it's a short fight, by all means put the other shots in, but as BM always maintain the 1:1 ratio.

If you watch the kill command CD and just spam really fast whenever it's up you can insert it into your rotation with that macro with very minimal if any clipping with a 1.6 shot speed. That's about the limit though.

(grats on tanking the bear boss btw gyfford. It's a fun fight.)
